NAACP award-winning Global Nonprofit Founding Director, Certified Grief Coach, Author, and International Speaker of Young, Black & Widowed® (YBW), Azurae Johnson Redmond, has passionately served the global widowed community since founding YBW during the pandemic in 2020.

Widowed by lung cancer at 27, while 5 months pregnant with a 10-month-old, Azurae transformed her life by providing inclusive peer grief support to over 3,000 widows and widowers worldwide. Her journey is featured in the book "Widowed Parents Unite" by Jenny Lisk, where she contributed as a foreword writer and author. She has spoken on several international stages, including Soaring Spirits International's Camp Widow.

Under her leadership, YBW has managed over 33,630 volunteer hours, executing 2,334+ widow(er) peer support groups and handling 2,836+ support line calls, including 77 crisis intervention connections. Azurae also leads the Modern Widows Club’s global "Black Widows Community," serves as a Regional Peer Support Group Leader for Soaring Spirits International and is on the Board of Directors of NAMI.

Recognized for her efforts in advancing black mental health and community advocacy, Azurae has been named one of Tennessee's Top African American Women by the Tennessee Tribune and received the NAACP Ruby Hurley Image Award for Community Activism.
