  • Oga Otulama: Trying to Spread Peace and Joy

    Described as one of Atlanta’s most notable producers, Oga Otumala has captivated both aspiring musicians and audiences all across the nation. His status as a seminal figure was solidified by his various accomplishments in the entertainment industry. He first fell in love with music when he was in elementary school. He amazed his parents and school teachers when he constructed a guitar out of a bamboo plant before he even learned the art of playing the instrument. This laid the groundwork for his thrust into the world of music. He first made his debut appearance in front of large audiences with live performances on television programs. A few of these include popular programs like “Youth Panorama” and a radio show called ” Youth Forum“. Oga Otumala thrilled and captivated his audiences. The strength and soulfulness of his songs at an early age were remarkable. He has remained true to his own vision and distinct sound.

    Before leaving for the United States in 1988, Oga had already left a huge mark winning seven first prizes, two of those international precisely: The Greenbelt World Music Festival, in London, and the All Africa Music Festival in Kenya. In 1987 Oga was the only Nigeria representative in USAID for Africa where he co-toured over 40 countries with other international artists for the “We Are The World” project to raise funds for the famine in Ethiopia. Before he left Nigeria, he had a national tour where he performed for several state governors as well as performing for four presidents of African countries.

    Not only in Nigeria and Africa has Oga made his mark, in his 27 years stay in the United States, Consequently, he is the first and currently the only producer born on African soil to be a three-category-voting member of the Grammy Awards, the highest entertainment body in the world. In 2006, Oga’s song, “I Am An African” became the first English number-one song in Addis Ababa and was also translated to Amharic and performed by an Ethiopian Artist. The song generated the interest of the African Union (AU) to be made as an anthem for Africa. For his song “DANCE WITH THE DEVIL”, he won an award at the Actors, Models & Talents Competition (AMTC) for best songwriter of the year in 2008 in the USA. In 2013, Oga’s song “AMERICA RECOVERS” was commissioned for the National event of the 50th commemoration speech, “I HAVE A DREAM” by Dr. Martin Luther King in Washington, DC before President Obama, Clinton, and Carter. He was also honored at the 50th NOBEL PEACE PRIZE event of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in 2014 with the performance of his song “AMERICA RECOVERS” by the ICONIC JOURNEY group in Atlanta, GA USA. Oga Otumala is a humanitarian. Throughout his career, he has also dedicated his life to fighting for humanity, assisting and mentoring emerging artists and producers. Such commitment has created not only hope in aspiring young talents but also a foundation to embrace perseverance for greater success.

  • Ro Brooks: From Extra to Actor

    Jerome Ro Brooks talks about going from being an Extra to an Actor and his latest book. He grew up in West Baltimore. Ro's natural acting ability was cultivated by his Grandmother and Great Aunt, who would encourage Ro and his three older sisters to perform dance and musical routines for them by throwing change at their feet. During his younger years, Ro began developing his musical prowess by rapping and dancing at local talent shows and events. While attending Walbrook High School, Ro's early success would begin when he got together with a group of friends and formed the rap group, Twice As Nice. The group would win 1st place at a local talent show that would earn them a spot on the bill at Harlem's famed Apollo Theater for a taping on "Showtime at the Apollo". They would make history by becoming the first rap group to win on "Amateur Night". A few years later, Ro landed his first role as an extra in the feature film "The Meteor Man", directed by Robert Townsend. He has gone on to work with other acclaimed directors such as Michael Bay, Fab 5 Freddy, Quentin Tarantino, Michael Mann, and Tyler Perry just to name a few.

    Ro has starred in numerous films, commercials, and television shows including (Film) Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, Mysterious Ways, A Beautiful Soul, Pastor Shirley, and Squatters; (Television) HBO's critically acclaimed The Wire, FX's Sons of Anarchy, Showtime's Shameless, FOX's Emmy Award Winning, Brooklyn Nine-Nine and 24, CBS's CSI New York, El Rey's Matador and many others.

    With an extensive background in music, Ro welcomed the opportunity to return to his musical roots while integrating and expanding on his acting talents to include music videos, working with such artists as Sean "P. Diddy" Combs, 50 Cent, Justin Timberlake, Lil' Wayne, TI, Jill Scott, Young Jeezy, Snoop Dogg, Shyne, Lil' Mo, Syleena Johnson, and Master P.

    Ro Brooks is known for his dramatic, compelling role as Michael, on OWN's - Tyler Perry's, hit drama series "The Haves and the Have Nots". He has also had the pleasure of working on BET's, history breaking, three-night mini-series, "The New Edition Story". Ro joins the cast of "Medinah", as a series regular." Medinah" is a middle eastern Sci/Fi - Drama series set in Doha, Qatar where Ro plays a CIA agent sent to find his partner. Medinah is slated to release in Winter 2022.

  • Smoove: The Importance of Highlighting Fathers who are Doing It Right

    B-Smoove, the artist, rapper, and entertainer was born in Flint, Michigan with a current residence in Sacramento, California. Since his arrival in California, he has set and accomplished many goals. On a mission for music, B-Smoove became a barber in the Sacramento area to finance his career. Many of his clients were players for the Sacramento Kings and popular television personalities.

    B-Smoove has completed four albums and worked with some of the industry's best producers and artists. Raphael Saadiq of Toni Tony Tone, Too Short, Kurupt, San Quinn, Jason Edmonds, TmoSBeaTZ, Derek (D.O.A) Allen, Nate Dogg, Karyn White, Brian Morgan, Kid Capri, DJ Quik, and Flip Kirby, just to name a few. His music has been showcased at the Santa Barbara Festival when he opened for W.C. of the Westside Connection, as well as events sponsored by Brian Grant of the Los Angeles Lakers. B-Smoove has also performed for the City of Los Angeles at events with Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa on numerous occasions. He has performed at the Sacramento Kings “Stay In School Jam” for two years, where he opened for Pink as well as the King's 20th Anniversary at Arco Arena. At the Sacramento Jazz Festival, he opened for the O’Jays, Whispers, and the Dramaticals. B-Smoove has also opened for KRS-ONE at UC Davis University, Slick Rick at Fandango’s, Nas at The Colonial Theater, and Doug E. Fresh at Harlow’s in Sacramento. He was the headliner at Club Peanuts and The Century Club in Los Angeles. He has performed at many more clubs, venues, and events throughout Northern and Southern California.

    B-Smoove was also nominated for best new artist at the Los Angeles Music Awards. His music has been on MTV’s Punk’d, Rob & Big, The Hills, Next, From G’s to Gents, P.Diddy’s Making The Band 4, ABC’s Life According to Jim, FOX’s So You Think You Can Dance, NBC’s Extra, UFC’s Cage Fights, TNT’s Dark Blue, ABC Family’s Lincoln Heights, OXYGEN’s Party Monsters with P.Diddy, Access Hollywood’s Celebrity Expose’ on Will and Jada Smith, as well as in the Warner Brothers film “The Brave One”. His music has also been played on various radio stations from Portland to Los Angeles. B-Smoove was featured on Sacramento news channel 10 KTXL and performed on UPN for his sophomore album “ Tha Best Kept Secret”, as well as House Party Live with Jim Kozimor on the Kings Network.

    On his independent record label 3 Pounds Entertainment, he has released four albums “Fa Da 99”, “Tha Best Kept Secret”, “Stroke Ov Genius” and “Keep The Change”. His style is very original and lyrically inclined to keep you listening. B-Smoove’s flow is mature with great annunciation and strong delivery. His songs contain intelligent wordplay, which showcases his deep thought process with topics ranging from club nights to speaking about life and ways to avoid tragedy and obtaining success. He calls it “Being Smoove”. He intends to continue to make a difference in his life and others by remaining a positive role model, creating diverse music for all ages, and encouraging the youth to follow their dreams.
