🦴 Canine Caregivers...what kind of long-lasting chew treats do you give to YOUR dog? 🐩

🎙In S03E003 of the My Favorite Bitch podcast, I talk about some of the chew treats we have tried with our 2-year-old Labrador retriever Moxie.

    Some work, some don't.

As a dog mom to a food-motivated aggressive chewer, I have to get creative when it comes to treats designed to last longer than a few seconds.

⚠️ I also have to be vigilant and careful. Few breeds can work through a rawhide like a young Lab.

To enrich, stimulate, occupy, and settle Moxie, we use a variety of options.

Some are controversial. Keep the preaching and judgment out of the comments. If you are triggered, move on.

Great alternatives, hacks, and other positive ideas are welcome.

⭐️ So what chew treats do YOU give to your dog, and why?

  • MFB S03E002 I Pepper-Sprayed An Unleashed Dog
    2024/01/29

Today was the first day I had to use my pepper spray on an unleashed dog. 🔥

In S03E001 of the My Favorite Bitch podcast, I recount my recent experience with an aggressive dog in my neighborhood and why I finally used my 'chemical incapacitant."

Whether walking alone or with my dogs, over the years I have had many encounters with unleashed dogs in public places.

I occasionally unhook the pink pepper spray from my Mary Poppings Dog Walking Carpet Bag...usually when I am in an area where dogs are known to have come at us in an unfriendly manner.

    Just in case.

Just in case the dog racing in my direction is not averted by my confrontational stance, my loud commands, or (rarely) their owner successfully calling them back.

↳ Sometimes they charge out of their yards into the street.

↳ Sometimes they are unleashed at a park but not fully trained in recall.

↳ Sometimes they just come out of nowhere.

Today Moxie and I had an encounter with a known street charger. For the first time in over two decades, I actually sprayed the device.

    Details are in the podcast.

  • MFB S03E001 If You Can't Recall Your Dog, Use A Leash!
    2024/01/17

When you are out walking your dog in public, and another dog comes at you unleashed, do you say something? Do you hold back so you don't hurt someone's feelings, or because saying something might make them uncomfortable?

In S03E001, I talk about a trend I have seen where people hold their tongues when they are confronted by an unleashed dog because the other dog's owner might get their feelings hurt.

Check out the episode for my thoughts on this, and how I deal with unleashed dogs and their irresponsible owners.

Hmmm, I guess I just gave you a hint as to how I feel about this trend.

For you dog walkers, do you say something when an unleashed dog approaches you in a public area? Or do you bite your tongue?

Let me know in the comments!

  • MFB S02E004 My (Somewhat Controversial) Dog Rules
    2023/07/24

I let my 70-lb Labrador Retriever Moxie sit on my lap. DON'T JUDGE!

This is not the only pet rule of mine that might get a few people raising an eyebrow.

In the latest episode of the My Favorite Bit€h podcast, I explore a few pet boundaries (or lack thereof) that aren't always welcomed.

I run a tight ship most days but I do have some rules that have divided kingdoms.

Check out S02E004 My (Controversial) Rules and then tell me what your must judged pet rule is!

  • My Favorite Bitch S02E003 e-Fence Flag Hack
    2023/05/18

Do you have an electric/underground/invisible fence for your dog?

Have you ever thought about the power of those little flags you put around the fence border while training?

In S02E003 of the My Favorite B*tch podcast I talk about the magic of the e-fence flags and how I used them to keep my pewter land whale (silver Labrador) out of places where she shouldn't be. I also talk a bit about our experience with underground fences and how the training has helped us in other ways.

  • MFB S02E002 Orange Cats Are Evil
    2023/04/06

Why Do Orange Cats Love to Cuddle and Bite? Some Unscientific Examples of Their Confusing Behavior.

In the latest My Favorite B*tch episode I explore my theory that orange cats have a very dark side. They will pretend to be your best friend, all cuddly and snuggly, and then suddenly try to bite off your finger.

I share some of my experiences in the podcast, check it out (and don't forget to like and subscribe!).

Meanwhile, some feedback from my friends and family about their experiences with Orange Cat Demons:

"I love my orange kitty, but I do have my share of scars from 'love bites?!?'"

"Can be all lovey dovey then he’s a complete twat."

"Yep. I had a female buff/ orange cat. She wanted you to pet her and would bite the bejesus out of you if you did for more than .10 seconds."

"Agreed. I always skipped past the orange cats at the shelters for this reason. They look at you all sweet and sappy, and then turn on you in a vulnerable moment."

"...I've actually found them to be the most snuggly. But, I do have a lil orange demon in my home, so 🤷🏻‍♀️"

"I pet her for a good minute, nothing crazy just back pats. All of the sudden, she flipped herself over and grabbed my hand with both sets of claws and bit the SH^T out of me before I could even react."

    I rest my case.

I would love to hear your experiences with orange cats, or any cats for that matter!

    2023/01/15

How can a badass dogmom such as myself get tricked SO MANY TIMES by a teenage Labrador retriever?

In S02E001 of the My Favorite Bitch Podcast I kick off our second season with a tale of how my young dog once again managed to put something gross in her mouth at the speed of light.

How does she do that? I've lost count of how many nasty things she's brought home from our walks and most of the time I don't even know it's in her mouth.

  • MFB S01E021 The Right Way To Walk Your Dog
    2023/01/02

"You should never let your dog pull on the leash."

"Your dog should walk at your side for the whole time."

"You should never let your dog sniff or get distracted on a walk."

Blah, blah, blah. Shoulda, woulda, coulda.

I came from the Dog Whisperer school of "Your dog should always be at your side, loose leash, never reacting to anything." I believed this for a long time.

But the more dogs I have, the more I realize that there isn't one right way to walk a dog. I have evolved over the years and so has my dog-walking style.

In the final episode of the first season of the My Favorite B*tch podcast, I talk about the "right" and "wrong" way to walk your dog. Spoiler: my boundaries on this topic are pretty broad.

What is your walking style or technique? What challenges do you have walking your dog, and what have you tried in the past?
