A sneak peek into the world of Shahrazad, the girl who saves herself by telling suspenseful stories to the king

As the king prepares to end Shaharazad's life, she begins to tell him fascinating stories, saving herself with suspense. The storytellers are immigrants and refugees in an English as a Second Language class in New York.

The story of the Demon and the Merchant continues. With the threat of death looming over the Merchant, he tells an entertaining story to distract the Demon from seeking revenge. We learn that the Merchant is actually a nurse, and the Demon is an electrician. The King reflects on an episode of compassion in his boyhood.

More travelers arrive. Their personal stories of hardship and courage persuade the Demon/ Electrician to spare the life of the Merchant/ Nurse.

New travelers arrive, with new stories, and the King learns about patience and friendship, two things he has never experienced before.

The King is curious, and he struggles to learn Arabic with the help of the Merchant/ Nurse.
