In this sermon, Jeff Fernandez invited us to examine the many “Me or the Mission” moments that shape our lives, especially as a new year draws our attention inward. Scripture calls believers to move beyond personal rights and self-focus and instead seek what is loving, constructive, and good for others. Jesus models this in His interaction with Zacchaeus, showing how grace, truth, and presence can lead to repentance and transformation without compromising holiness. These moments of choosing mission over self form us into Christlikeness, calling us to respond quickly, humbly, and intentionally in our relationships so that God’s discipline produces righteousness and peace in us.

Family shapes us in ways that we are keenly aware of, and also beneath the surface of how we see ourselves, others, and approach daily life. Christmas surfaces many of the fond influences of our families, and it also surfaces much of the pain that we still carry. At Christmas, we celebrate Jesus’ birth, but His birth shouldn’t be isolated from the family He was born into.
