  • #36: Who’s Holding Your Leash? How to Reclaim Control
    2025/05/13

Are you unknowingly letting others control you?

As a (recovering) control freak, this episode hits close to home for me. Regarding what you can and cannot control, today I’m diving into why you might be giving away power over what you actually can control to others. If you’ve ever found yourself frustrated by other people’s opinions, actions, or words, this episode is for you.

You know you can’t control others. No matter how carefully you choose our words or how much effort you put into making someone happy, their reactions are out of your hands. But what about the reverse? What about control over yourself you willingly give up—when you let someone else’s actions dictate your emotions, your choices, and even your self-worth?

I like to think of it as handing over your leash. When you’re walking your dog (or cat, or rabbit—yes, I’ve seen it!), you guide them, keep them safe, and help them navigate the world. But what happens when you give your leash to someone else? Suddenly, you’re the one being pulled in directions you never intended, reacting instead of leading.

In this episode, I share a deeply personal experience that changed the way I see control—one that took me from burnout and frustration to reclaiming my choices, my emotions, and ultimately, my happiness. I’ll also talk about a powerful mindset shift that can help you stop dwelling on ‘what ifs’ and start focusing on what you can control.

So, get ready to take back your leash. Let’s get started!

    Episode Highlights:

    • 02:16 – Giving away control in daily life
    • 05:06 – You only have to feel any emotion for 90 seconds
    • 07:46 – Personal story: overcoming burnout
    • 10:50 – The power of mindset
    • 12:51 – The key to taking back control

Discover how to break free from outside influence and step into your own power!

  • #35: Beyond Labels: Seeing Yourself & Others with Curiosity
    2025/05/06

Labels shape our world—but are they helping or holding you back?

In this episode, I’m going on a little thought experiment—one that might just change how you see yourself and the world around you. Who doesn’t love a good label? They help you sort things out, make decisions faster, and help you feel like you understand the world (at least a little bit). But what happens when you apply too many labels to people, pets, and even yourself?

Think about it: clouds and medications are both labeled, but in completely different ways. Clouds are described loosely—big, fluffy, stormy—but you don’t try to define every last detail. Medications, on the other hand, are labeled down to the molecular structure to avoid confusion and ensure safety. So which approach do you take with the people (and pets) around you? And more importantly—how do these labels impact the way you live your life?

Join me in this episode as I explore the power of labels, the emotional baggage they carry, and what happens when you get curious instead of defining everything in black and white. I’ll also challenge you to start seeing people the way you watch clouds—without immediate judgment, just with curiosity. Because when you stop over-defining, you can open up a world of possibilities!

    Episode Highlights:

    • 01:22 – How easily you can define clouds
    • 02:56 – The need for precise definitions with medications
    • 04:44 – Curiosity is easier with clouds than with people
    • 07:05 – Emotions and labels
    • 09:17 – Stereotypes behind pet labels
    • 10:24 – Hidden stories behind human labels
    • 14:07 – The ultimate shift: seeing humanity first

Explore how words shape your identity and how curiosity can set you free!

Messy moments at the vet aren't just normal—they can actually be useful!

In this episode, I’m diving into something that happens in vet clinics every single day—but somehow still makes people cringe with embarrassment: when pets pee or poop in the exam room. If you’ve ever apologized profusely while scrambling to clean up after your pet, this episode is for you!

First things first—your pet is not the only one doing this. Far from it. Vet clinics are literally designed to handle these messes, and guess what? Sometimes, that poop your dog or cat just dropped in the middle of the exam room is exactly what your vet needs to run important tests.

Through curiosity, you can see that your pet’s reaction actually tells you a lot about their stress levels, their comfort, and even their health. And the same goes for you—when life gets messy, your emotions are clues, not problems to hide away.

In this episode, we’ll talk about why messiness—whether it’s in the exam room or in our emotions—deserves a second look. Plus, I’ll share practical tips on how to make vet visits smoother for both you and your pet. So, let’s embrace the mess and find the meaning in it together!

  • #31: No Apology Needed: Budgets for Vet Care
    2025/04/08

Your pet chose you, not your bank account.

This episode is about another apology veterinarians get way too often—people apologizing for having a budget when it comes to their pet’s care. And I get it—money is emotional. We’ve been conditioned to believe that if we just had enough money, we could control outcomes, guarantee our pet’s health, or somehow prove that we’re “good enough”. But here’s the truth: your worth isn’t tied to your bank account, and neither is your pet’s love for you.

As a veterinarian, I actually want to know when you have a budget—not to squeeze every penny out of you, but to help you make the best decisions within your resources. When you tell me, “This is what I can afford,” you’re not being difficult—you’re being brave. That honesty allows us to get creative, prioritize treatments, and work together for the best possible outcome.

The hard part? Unpacking the money stories we’ve all carried since childhood—the ones that tell us that security, worth, and control come with a price tag. In this episode, we’re breaking down those myths and shifting the mindset around money and pet care. Because there is no dollar amount on your pet’s love for you.

So, if you’ve ever felt guilty about bringing up a budget at the vet, this one’s for you. Let’s take the shame out of the conversation and focus on what really matters—giving our pets the best life possible, with the resources we have.

    Episode Highlights:

    • 01:22 – Discuss your budget early
    • 03:13 – Money doesn’t guarantee health
    • 05:33 – Uncertainty in medicine
    • 07:12 – Money as a neutral resource
    • 08:40 – Your pet chose you
