Jesus used many parables in the Bible revolving around nature to help get his point across to people - "those who have ears to hear". In this scripture, Jesus is speaking to a large crowd and also to His disciples.

We’re closing out our summer series with two sisters! Mary and Martha from the New Testament.

We’re diving into two stories today. One from Luke and one from John. These two sisters have different responses in both stories. We find some interesting takeaways in these two stories today.

First Story: Jesus visits Martha and Mary
What does their faith look like, and what are their priorities? This story has only 4 verses, but a powerful message!

Ponder points:
What do our prayers to God look like: Do we tell God ‘what to do’ sometimes in our prayers?

What do our priorities look like in our daily walk: Is God at the center?

Second Story: Centered on the two sisters’ brother, Lazarus
In this story, we discuss Jesus' waiting to go to Lazarus upon hearing of his situation. We find Jesus crying in this story - the shortest verse in the Bible "Jesus wept". We talk about the similarities in this story to the redemption story of Jesus.

Summer Series: Somebody from the New Testament today! Priscilla is a tent maker, a wife, someone who spreads the Good News, and so much more. Today we’re talking about her story and the interesting people who are part of her story.

We're starting in the book of Acts, where Paul is calling out idol worship in Athens. Soon afterwards, Paul meets Aquila and Priscilla in Corinth. Paul connects with them and... listen in to hear what happens with these three!

Sharing the Gospel is a big part of this story. Hear how Priscilla and Aquilla come alongside Apollos in this story. See what we can learn from this interaction of these three important people in the Bible.

Priscilla plays an important role in spreading the gospel, showing hospitality by providing a meeting place in their home, and showing obedience when called to ministry.

Deborah was a Judge, a leader of Israel, and a prophetess. Her characteristics were being faithful to the Lord, courageous, wise, and humble.

Hear what unfolds in the story about Deborah, Barak (the commander of the army), and the battle they are in: 900 chariots, 10,000 men, lots of rain - and God in the middle of it. It’s quite an exciting story!

What was a judge in the Old Testament? Are they the same as modern-day courtroom judges? Hear about that in today's episode.

It's Cyclical! During this time in the book of Judges, the Israelites sin through idolatry (worshipping gods such as Baal, a weather god). The Lord turns away from them. The Israelites cry out to the Lord. He answers by saving them through an appointed Judge. And then they rebel again... It’s a repeated cycle!

What can we learn from Mary Magdalene?

We’re talking about Mary’s life and who she was. What was she known for? Many things!

Two sisters today - Leah and Rachel. The two wives of Jacob.

We see a lot in this story: compassion, deception, rivalry, love, heartache, and blessings.

This is a time in the Bible where Jacob is now the chosen one to ‘carry the torch’ of God's covenant that he made with Abraham, and Jacob is looking for a wife.

This jam-pcked story of Laban's two daughters, Leah and Rachel, their maids, and the role they play in fulfilling God’s covenant is quite captivating. Relatives deceiving each other, a sister being barren, and then bearing children, to hiding idols - A lot happens. And God is right in the middle of it all!

Ponder points in this story:

-God works in ways we can’t always understand.

-How important is praising God?

-Do you find yourself waiting on God’s timing, or trying to make things happen by your own strength?

-Where do you see God’s compassion in this story?
