In the scorching port of Malia, Pazrael and Krumpet's search for the mysterious tablet leads them to whispers of an abandoned dig site where people either vanish or flee in terror.
Armed with nothing but cryptic warnings and two questionable camels, they venture into the merciless desert. As storm clouds gather over an ancient ruin, the unlikely companions share their dark pasts around the campfire – each driven by loss, each promised redemption by the enigmatic smoke man, and each harboring powers that set them apart.
But in this wasteland of secrets and shadows, even the rain refuses to fall naturally.
