  • A War Story, but Nice for a Change!
    2021/10/06

In this week's episode of the podcast, the Nerds return with two great topics: Extremophiles and the Brown-Stigler incident. Extremophile is a term covering a fairly broad swath of creatures. All of them can thrive in conditions originally thought to be completely inhospitable, and all of them are really, really cool! You'll have to listen to Jonah's topic to find out more, though. The Brown-Stigler incident is an oddity among tales from the war, but certainly a welcome one. I now love Ye Olde Pub, and I'm a teetotaler!

  • As Far South as You Can Go
    2021/08/29

In the 52nd episode of the Rambling Nerds podcast, Cirdan tells us about Team Fortress 2, a highly popular FPS from 2007. TF2 is a classic when it comes to team based shooters, but unfortunately, despite having a booming player base, it is currently in the roughest state is has ever been in thanks to an outdated anti-cheat, and an obscene amount of bots infesting lobbies. Later, Jonah teaches us about Antarctica, the southern-most point on the planet. Being one of the coldest and driest places on the Earth, Antarctica is an extremely interesting location, and there may just be more about it that you didn't know. After this episode, there will be no episode the week after, due to personal situations getting in the way of recording.

  • Cattle, the Supplier of Milk and the Source of Beef
    2021/08/24

Welcome back to another episode of Rambling Nerds! This week, our episode opens up with Jonah telling us about cattle. While most people just know cattle for being humanities source of beef (and most milk), there is actually quite a bit more to the animals.  This topic will go over everything, from their history and evolution, to the different types of cattle, and what each type is used for. Once we are done talking about cattle, Cirdan introduces us to Void Bastards, a survival roguelike shooter set in a nebula full of destroyed ships, in which stranded inmates must explore wreckages for precious salvage that will allow them to escape to safety.

  • SWAT 4, an Old Gem
    2021/08/16

Welcome to the 50th episode of Rambling Nerds! For this week, our episode opens with Cirdan telling us about SWAT 4, a realistic tactical shooter from 2005 that he believes offers one of the best tactical experiences around. When he is done with that, Jonah explains fertilizer, some of the history, uses and effects, and more! Trust us, there is a lot more behind fertilizer than one would think.

  • It's Payday
    2021/08/09

Yes, this episode is a day late. Yes, this may be due to Cirdan being dumb. In this weeks episode, Jonah gives us a look at keyboards. We get to learn about their history, their future, the different types, and how they work. Cirdan is just amazed that analog keyboards exist. Later, Cirdan talks about his most played game on steam, PAYDAY 2, an intense, high-energy 4 player coop shooter about a gang of dangerous criminals going on a crime spree through Washington D.C.

  • Predicting the Weather
    2021/08/01

This week on the Rambling Nerds, Cirdan continues his talk on Ori by diving into the sequel, Ori and the Will of the Wisps, a sequel that improves on many aspects of Blind Forest, but still falls short in some places. Afterwards, Jonah tells us about the basics and the history of weather prediction, and how we humans have managed to pull it off, as well as a quick glimpse into what me might expect from it in the future.

    Cirdan recommends listening to the following songs off the Ori soundtrack;

    • Main Theme
    • We Named her Ku
    • Mora the Spider
    • Kwolok's Malaise
    • Ori, Embracing the Light <- The ending of this one (last like, minute or so) is really cool, and is a huge nostalgia hit for those who played through Blind Forest.

  • Quantum Computing and Blind Forests
    2021/07/26

In this week's episode of the Rambling Nerds podcast, Jonah takes a deep dive into the world of quantum computers, and all the potential pros and cons that come along with them, while Cirdan is just sad that he can't have one set up in his basement. Afterwards, Cirdan shows us one of his new favorite games, Ori and the Blind Forest, an emotional game about love and sacrifice.

The following are the songs Cirdan recommends listening to off the Ori soundtrack:

    •     Light of Nibel
    •     Restoring the Light, Facing the Dark
    •     The Sacrifice
    •     Escaping the Ruins
    •     Inspiriting
    •     Ori, Lost in the Storm

EXTRA SONG THAT CIRDAN FORGOT TO MENTION:

    • The Spirit Tree

  • The Topics May be Faster than Light, but Our Episode Releases Sure Aren't
    2021/07/19

After many months of no uploads, (due to irl stuff happening), we have finally returned, hopefully for good! In this weeks episode, Cirdan give us his opinions on the coop vs AI horde shooter "Deep Rock Galactic". Later, Jonah talks about faster than light travel, or superluminal travel, which was actually requested by a listener who emailed us! Cirdan would also like to apologize to any DRG players out there, as throughout the episode he referred to the enemies in the game as Chrysallids, when they are in fact called Glyphids. Sorry for any confusion caused by this error!
