Welcome back, Happy first week of a new month. Happy Black History Month! On today’s episode of the podcast I had, and still have every intention to discuss the topic of healing. Specifically, today we were going to discuss reframing our mindset around the topic of healing. I still to intend to talk about that but I’ll be going about it in a way that was unexpected and not quite what I planned.
Hopefully the what I provide today paints a vivid picture on the necessity of healing and changing our mind around what it means to heal. Healing is usually associated with dark and heavy emotions. Or even traumas from the past into the present that we aren’t yet ready to face. I’m actually not going to argue that fact. It is that and healing is also so much more than that. When I think of healing, I talk about my experience with healing providing freedom, providing unbridled joy, providing the answers you’ve been seeking, providing the warmth and the comfort you’ve been needing, the opportunity to walk through life unaffected by the guise of others.
When I think of freedom and joy being implications to healing my soul radiates with joy! Healing is meant to assist you in coming home to yourself and help you on your journey of self-discovery. The reward of gratitude you have for living after facing all that you have gone through. The power that you have in yourself in understanding all that you have accomplished, all that you have overcome despite. That’s the joy in healing.
Sometimes the heaviest part of healing is reckoning with hard truths and traversing past traumas that you uncover within your history. It’s maybe the biggest part of your healing journey. In understanding who you are with the context of history you stand to harness your greatest power in through healing and self discovery. Imani Perry the author of the book South to America stated that, “History is an instruction and what you neglect to tend to in the past you will surely ignore in the present.” It should instruct our future as a way to progress toward better virtues and much like ourselves seek truth and transformation. Lately, my history, Black history is facing an attack. Erasure, something we are all too familiar with as a people. I was afraid to speak my truth today on this episode but what better place than here and there is no greater time then now!
Let's not miss a chance to connect as women and let it be beautiful!
