    In this week's news, two-time defending champion Mo Farah's hopes of representing Great Britain in the Olympic 10,000m seem to be over and the Netherlands’ Sifan Hassan added her name to the legends of the sport by smashing the women’s 10,000-metre world record.

    Following on from the tragic news a few weeks ago where 21 ultra runners lost their lives at the Yellow River Stone Forest 100k event, China has announced that is to ban extreme sports in wake of the Gansu tragedy and in response The Guardian has released its Today in Focus podcast, titled The danger – and beauty – of ultrarunning.

    Up & Running  founders Dennis & Gillian Macfarlane will be stepping back into semi-retirement, Trail Running magazine have unveiled their best trail running locations in the UK,  Garmin have launched the Forerunner 55, an easy to operate GPS smartwatch designed for people of all abilities, World Athletics launches the first phase of its Run Smarter City Challenge and Sinead Diver is set to make her Olympic debut at 44-years old and become Australia's oldest ever Olympic competitor!
