Teacher leadership can stem from a designated role like department chairman or it can come about more organically and informally. The two teachers interviewed for this episode work in different settings - one a public school teacher who is more of an informal leader, and the other a private school teacher who is a department chair. Perhaps, it is not completely surprising that their comments suggest there are things more important than the formality of the role to being a good leader and being recognized as such by their colleagues. Both also discuss how their leadership roles have emerged and what their plans might be for the future.

In this episode, two young, emerging teacher leaders from Orange County Schools in NC discuss their perceptions of what it means to be a teacher leader. Both of these young ladies are superstars in their fields and their insights and perspectives are terrific!

Josh Tripp, high school principal in Bucksport, Maine, is an exceptional instructional leader in his school. In this episode, we discuss the importance of teacher leadership to his school's success. He also describes the importance of collaborative work led by his teacher leaders and the return on investment in professional development of those teacher leaders.
