  • Finding the Blessings Among the Weeds
    2022/10/19

Eve Rossi and Beth Sommers join Julie Majovsky today as we look at the parable of the wheat among the weeds.

    Matthew 13: 24-30
The Parable of the Weeds Among the Wheat

He proposed another parable to them.* “The kingdom of heaven may be likened to a man who sowed good seed in his field. While everyone was asleep his enemy came and sowed weeds* all through the wheat, and then went off.

When the crop grew and bore fruit, the weeds appeared as well. The slaves of the householder came to him and said, ‘Master, did you not sow good seed in your field? Where have the weeds come from?’

He answered, ‘An enemy has done this.’ His slaves said to him, ‘Do you want us to go and pull them up?’ He replied, ‘No, if you pull up the weeds you might uproot the wheat along with them. Let them grow together until harvest;* then at harvest time I will say to the harvesters, “First collect the weeds and tie them in bundles for burning; but gather the wheat into my barn.”

  • Finding the message through community
    2022/10/28

Today Chris Everhart and Annette Spiezzio sit and talk with Donna and Julie about one of the really hard parables.

The Parable of the Tenants - Matthew 21: 33-45

“Hear another parable. There was a landowner who planted a vineyard,* put a hedge around it, dug a wine press in it, and built a tower. Then he leased it to tenants and went on a journey. When vintage time drew near, he sent his servants* to the tenants to obtain his produce.

But the tenants seized the servants and one they beat, another they killed, and a third they stoned. Again he sent other servants, more numerous than the first ones, but they treated them in the same way. Finally, he sent his son to them, thinking, ‘They will respect my son.’

But when the tenants saw the son, they said to one another, ‘This is the heir. Come, let us kill him and acquire his inheritance.’ They seized him, threw him out of the vineyard, and killed him.

What will the owner of the vineyard do to those tenants when he comes?”

They answered* him, “He will put those wretched men to a wretched death and lease his vineyard to other tenants who will give him the produce at the proper times.”

Jesus said to them, “Did you never read in the scriptures: ‘The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone; by the Lord has this been done, and it is wonderful in our eyes’? Therefore, I say to you, the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people that will produce its fruit. The one who falls on this stone will be dashed to pieces; and it will crush anyone on whom it falls."

When the chief priests and the Pharisees* heard his parables, they knew that he was speaking about them.

  • The beauty of second chances
    2022/11/02

This week Evelyn Garfias and Theresa Castellese join Donna and Julie for the Parable of the two sons. As with all of Jesus' teachings there are many layers to discuss.

The Parable of the Two Sons - Matthew 21: 28-32

“What is your opinion? A man had two sons. He came to the first and said, ‘Son, go out and work in the vineyard today.’ He said in reply, ‘I will not,’ but afterwards he changed his mind and went.

The man came to the other son and gave the same order. He said in reply, ‘Yes, sir,’ but did not go. Which of the two did his father’s will?” They answered, “The first.” Jesus said to them, “Amen, I say to you, tax collectors and prostitutes are entering the kingdom of God before you. When John came to you in the way of righteousness, you did not believe him; but tax collectors and prostitutes did. Yet even when you saw that, you did not later change your minds and believe him.

  • Making room for the new way
    2022/11/09

Beth Sommers and Lisa Steiner join Donna and Julie to discuss the Parable of the Old Garment.

No one tears a patch from a new garment and sews it on an old one. If he does, he will have torn the new garment, and the patch from the new will not match the old. And no one pours new wine into old wineskins. If he does, the new wine will burst the skins, the wine will run out and the wineskins will be ruined. No, new wine must be poured into new wineskins. And no one after drinking old wine wants the new, for he says, 'The old is better.' (Luke 5:36-39)

  • Redemption, Unconditional Love, Humility and Less Judgment
    2022/11/16

Today Lisa Steiner and Eve Rossi join Donna and Julie as we look at the many facets of the parable of the Prodigal Son. Prodigal has two meanings if you look it up in the Dictionary:
1: one who spends or gives lavishly and foolishly 2: one who has returned after an absence
So this word could describe both the son and the father in this story as Jesus has told it.

It's a long one so check it out in Luke 15: 11-32.
