There are times when things get so bad that you want to give up, but you don’t because something keeps you going. For some, that something might be hope for a better future, kids, a spouse, or family members. It wasn’t until a few years ago that I realized that although I wasn’t giving up, I wasn’t motivated to keep going. My dreams for a better life started to feel like a fairytale, something make-believe that would never happen. I wanted to give up because there was no joy in living a life I felt had no purpose. It wasn’t until I heard those words, “Hold on,” that I was able to pause and reflect on my life. I was curious to figure out what or who I was holding on for.
As I searched deeper for the meaning of “Hold on,” I realized God was telling me not to give up, that it is not over, but I could not help this feeling of emptiness. That is when the holy spirit revealed to me that everything I do is not for me, but for the ones to come after. The generations 50 to 100 years from now that will come across something I have written or spoken about, and their life is changed. It was then a sense of peace or fulfillment came over me. My happiness was no longer in the things I could gain now by writing books or making music, but in the impact it can have on life in the future.
After coming to the realization that everything I do has purpose, it all made sense that all the gifts and talents God gave me are bigger than just me. Bigger than just making money and becoming famous. Bigger than giving my family a better life. What I am doing has purpose. Once I realized that, no matter what went on in my life, life was worth living. I pray that you find a purpose bigger than yourself; one that will help generations after you. Don’t give up because the world needs you!
