  • Discussing AI Jury, Challengers, Bad Monkey, and Lady in the Lake
    2024/10/07

Hey scripties, we’re back with another packed episode! This week, we dive into a fascinating new movie in production across Spain and Portugal that explores the concept of artificial justice. The big question: would you rather be judged by humans or an AI jury in a court case? We break down the pros, cons, and potential biases of AI in the justice system, and debate where things could go wrong.

We start off with our viewers/listeners recommended watch Challengers, starring Zendaya as Tashi, a former tennis star turned coach. Tension brews as her husband faces off against his former best friend—and her ex—in a high-stakes tennis match. Can you ever fully let go of past romances? And how far will you go to win, whether in love or on the court?

For our first Plot and Pop pick, we’re covering Bad Monkey. Vince Vaughn is stellar as Andrew Yancey, a detective who’s too dedicated to justice for his own good. We follow his journey from Miami to the Bahamas as he goes head-to-head with a corrupt developer trying to seize local land. Along the way, we dive into his romance with Rosa, a coroner, as they fight to expose the villainous Christopher/Nick before it's too late.

Next up, we tackle Lady in the Lake. Cleo, a powerful Black woman fighting for her family, and Maddie, a manipulative and prejudiced journalist, show us two sides of the same coin. We explore race, privilege, and manipulation, unraveling Maddie’s dangerous ambitions and the tragic mystery of who killed Cleo. The lines Maddie is willing to cross for a story will leave you questioning everything. Tune in for all the tea, scripties!

  • Discussing Emmys, Tell Me Lies S2, How To Die Alone, No Country for Old Men

Hey Scripties! We kick off this episode by diving into the Emmy wins, with Shogun and The Bear sweeping the awards, and Baby Reindeer making a strong showing too. Then, for our first Plot and Pop, we jump into Tell Me Lies Season 2, now streaming on Hulu. We break down Steven and Lucy's evolving relationship and how the tension is building as they return to college. We discuss Jackson White's stellar performance as Steven and how Lucy's character is really standing her ground this season. Plus, we're still questioning Drew's death, and why Diana hasn't confronted Steven about the night Macy died. Something’s definitely off.

Next, we review How to Die Alone, also on Hulu. Natasha Rothwell shines as Mel, and we can’t stop talking about the blend of spot-on comedy and realism. We debate whether Mel belongs with Alex or Terrence and throw out some predictions for Season 2.

Finally, in our viewer’s recommended watch, we take a deep dive into No Country for Old Men. We discuss the brilliance of its lack of background music and the chilling coin-flip method the killer uses to decide fate. Was finding that bag of money really worth it? Tune in to find out!

  • Discussing Betting for Movie Buffs, The Perfect Couple, Fight Night: Million Dollar Heist, and Bodies Bodies Bodies
    2024/09/24

Hey Scripties! In this episode, we dive into something wild—betting on Rotten Tomatoes scores! Yes, you've heard of FanDuel and DraftKings, but now, thanks to TheAnkler.com, people are betting on everything from movie release dates to box office sales. We break down how it works, whether we'd ever participate, and if you can really predict that 85% rating.

Next, our first Plot and Pop Pick takes us into the Netflix series The Perfect Couple. A lavish wedding, a body discovered before vows are exchanged—everyone's a suspect. We chat about Nicole Kidman’s familiar roles, if we could marry someone our parents hated, and our theories on who the killer might be.

Then, we shift to Fight Night: Million Dollar Heist on Peacock. We dive into episodes 1-4, following Chicken Man (Kevin Hart), a hustler who throws a party for the godfather of Harlem, Frank Moten (Samuel L. Jackson), only for things to go sideways. We discuss the standout characters, shocking moments, and our predictions for the next episodes.

Finally, our Viewer's/Watchers Recommended pick is Bodies Bodies Bodies. We talk about this TikTok generation satire, set during a hurricane in a remote mansion where fake friends and real danger collide. Could this chaos have gone down at an HBCU? We debate the real root of the drama. Tune in for all the tea, theories, and plot twists!
