I talked with Brent Smedly, the Drummer and co-founder for the band, Out Of Darkness. We heard about the bands beginnings and current status after some touring of the southern states and up along the east coast. Brent clues us in on the bands future the next album still in the recording process and some of his influences as a drummer.

Based out of the state of Florida Out Of Darkness is a band not to be taken lightly. Formed in late 2019 after founding members drummer Brent “Deadly” Smedley of the band Iced Earth and vocalist/guitarist Eric Barrios met through a mutual friend. After the pair stopped at a local jam night they soon discovered they had an instant musical chemistry. It was from this night Out Of Darkness was born.

Bill Manchini was 17. He was hit by a car while on a test drive for a new motorcycle he was going to buy and he died, not once, but 3 times. He spent months in a Boston Hospital and had his 18th birthday there. He spent a couple years dealing with depression and finally pulled his mental game together and started his life over again all before he was 20 years old. He has chronic pain 39 years later and offers advice to myself and anyone listening things to do and things to avoid while living with pain. How to not let it be your master.

This episode turned into a conversation between myself and Bill who reached out to me after my car accident to offer advice on what I was going through. I felt it would be a good addition to the show for anyone who might be in a similar situation.

The Secret backstory here is Bills accident and recovery. He hasn’t talked publicly about it before and after hearing Episode 2; Kelly Martin Dehay, turn your mess into a message on the Secret Backstory podcast, he felt he could share his story as well.

He went from sweeping floors at TJ Max to owner of a flight school in his home town of North Andover, MA. As a contributor to his community he helps kids learn a skill they might not have if they hadn’t crossed paths with Tim. Some kids who were heading down a troubled path who he has had the privilege of seeing grow into productive adults. One young lady who grew up and retired as an Officer in the military.
