  • This summer most of the Gospel lessons are in the Gospel according to Saint Mark. These readings talk about Jesus’ teachings, His miracles, and His action-packed ministry. But each of the readings also has a “takeaway” from Jesus Himself! We’re focusing on these “red-letter” verses this summer.

    This week there are actually two good candidates for a “red-letter" verse. In the first one, Jesus says “Everything is possible for someone who believes.” That’s a true statement, but maybe easy to explain and accept. The other one is harder to accept, because it goes against our nature - so that’s the one I’ve chosen to focus on. Here it is, from Mark chapter 29 - “This kind can come out only by prayer” – and especially the last three words, “Only by prayer.”
