In this episode, Dr. Kate and Dr. John talk about College and Fraternity violence that has been going on from ages ago until now, with no one ever getting a handle on it. From universities using avoidance and victims self-blaming or coerced to keep quiet, it is a dangerous epidemic that continues to haunt young women across the globe during their college years.
From a Cat calling incident in Madrid to cases of women being drugged, to rape to murder, this phenomenon does not go away. The college campus is a hotbed of violence towards women (and others). Often no one is prosecuted. Maybe a few are expelled.
Stats from RAINN:
• 13% of all students experience rape or sexual assault through physical force, violence, or incapacitation (among all graduate and undergraduate students).2
• Among graduate and professional students, 9.7% of females and 2.5% of males experience rape or sexual assault through physical force, violence, or incapacitation.2
• Among undergraduate students, 26.4% of females and 6.8% of males experience rape or sexual assault through physical force, violence, or incapacitation.2
• 5.8% of students have experienced stalking since entering college.2
Other stats:
• 23.1% of TGQN (transgender, genderqueer, nonconforming) college students have been sexually assaulted.
• 43% of college women who are dating have reported experiencing violence or abuse at the hands of their partner. An estimated 80% of sexual assaults on college students go unreported.
We cover points about the place of Fraternities on Campus, many being relocated off-campus to keep the College not responsible for activities.
What is the power of frats? How is it affecting the male/group psyche?
