  • Pressing Pause: Why It's so Hard to Take a Break and What You Can Do About It
    2023/12/13

As Winter rolls around, life usually slows down too: more time indoors, less time at work, and more time to ourselves. For our final episode of 2023, Mory and Melissa talk about how the season is a chance to spend more time looking inward. The intensity of our internal emotions makes it easy - necessary even - to distract ourselves with the external world. It can be nearly impossible to reflect inward when we feel like we’re always on the clock, as though every moment has to be productive in order to be good. Whether we like it or not, this repression is unsustainable. Mother Nature offers an opportunity to reflect, realign, and listen to our inner wisdoms as the business of life finally slows down in the winter months. Tune in to hear more about how you can take a pause without making it productive, why community is left out of the conversation, and what we’ve got planned for 2024! Thank you all so much for listening, and happy holidays!

  • Reincarnation: Past Lives are the Key to Future Healing
    2023/12/06

Every year, more American adults say they believe in reincarnation, a concept that has existed throughout human history and across the globe. But, for a philosophy so famous, not much is known about the inner workings of past lives. How can we connect with our past lives? How do prior life experiences show up in our current lives? And the question on everyone’s minds: is reincarnation something we can prove? This week, an optimistic Mory and an undecided Melissa trade personal stories, thrilling case studies, and a sprinkling of scientific research to show that the debate on reincarnation is far from settled. Mory recounts how her meeting with esteemed Past Life Psychic Ainslie MacLeod helped her make sense of guilt (and also proved her eternal love for Paris). Melissa narrates the real-life story of James Leininger, a toddler who recounted the plane crash of an American pilot with inexplicable accuracy. If you’re convinced, curious, or even skeptical about the possibility of a karmic world, there’s no better place to be.

  • What’s in a Cult?: Secret Societies, Charismatic Leaders, and People Craving Purpose
    2023/11/29

Some experts believe that there might be close to 10,000 cults in the United States alone. What draws so many people into cults? How exactly do they work? And most importantly - what counts as a cult!? Melissa and Mory trade stories on some of the big names in cult history, including Charles Manson and Jim Jones, who offer a glimpse into the collective delusions and infamous crimes that have excited popular imagination. But, there’s something about cults that’s almost universal. Can we really blame cult members for craving a sense of belonging, especially when the world outside is sometimes unbearable to live in? And, wouldn’t it be fair to say that our political systems and religious institutions thrive off of dominating those who are disconnected from their intuitive wisdom, much like cults themselves? In this week’s episode, we hear about how (not) to become a toxic cult leader, why tootsie rolls are actually to die for, and Melissa’s growing - but misguided - suspicion that Mory might be trying to start a cult of her own.

  • Doing Discourse: How to Have Difficult Conversations
    2023/11/15

This week, Mory and Melissa have a more serious conversation about serious conversations. Why is it so hard to have disagreements with each other while maintaining empathy? How can we have respectful conversations in which we’re hearing each other? The two, fresh off of their own hard conversation, tackle both sources and solution to our discourse problem, particularly in relation to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

  • Meditation Methodology: It’s Not As Hard as You Think
    2023/11/08

If you’ve ever thought, “I wish I could be the kind of person that meditates,” this episode is here to tell you that you already are. Mory and Melissa get into the history of meditation, what can make it so hard to get into, and why it’s worth doing anyway. Mory shares practical tips for lowering the barrier to entry to start meditating. Both ponder whether or not cavemen were better at meditating than modern humans. • People Pleasing: Why we put the happiness of others before our own
    2023/11/01
Wanting to please others can be a normal part of life, but when does it turn into appeasing others at your own expense? This week, Mory and Melissa return to personal growth by taking a long, hard look at people pleasing. We celebrate compassion as a culture, we speak highly of empathy, and we adore sacrifice - but we usually don’t talk about the times we care for others out of a need to feel safe or valuable. Fawning is just as much a trauma response as ‘fight or flight,’ and like all trauma responses, fawning should be honored and understood for what it is: our imperfect and natural capacity to process difficulty. Tune in for some serious (and not so serious) stories from the front lines of people pleasing, clarity on reconnecting to your own desire, and a convincing argument for why you should get a bean of your own.

  • Spooky Signal Season: the Unclear, the Uncanny, and the Unsolved
    2023/10/18
For our third installment of haunted programming, Mory and Melissa share unsolved mysteries they’ve personally picked for your skin-crawling pleasure. Mory relates the case of twin girls who’ve recalled the experiences of past lives, which research shows is actually more common among toddlers than you might expect (thanks, science). And don’t be duped by Melissa’s hilarious minion costume: this week she’s chosen to tell the story of the cryptic zodiac killer and his infamous rampage across northern California. Between evidence of reincarnation and mentally unstable minions, goosebumps lie ahead for the brave listener.
