  • HoM: Star Trek Podcast - STAR TREK: SECTION 31 Review
    2025/03/30

Episode 78 - "This stretched my empathy to the max, looking for the good in this."

Section 31 Classified Review (A Therapy Session in Disguise).

Welcome to the Hit or Miss debriefing, where we dissect 'Star Trek: Section 31'—and, boy, do we have some truth bombs to drop like a Droom doll from an airlock. Join Michael, Nita, Justin, and Mary as we attempt to give this recent Star Trek Paramount+ movie the fair review it deserves. Spoiler alert: we try, but honesty is our mission, for better or worse. We’ll go over the basic plot for those brave or wise enough to still be avoiding it: the story follows the Mirror Universe's Empress Georgiou (Michelle Yeoh, reprising her role from 'Star Trek: Discovery'), who gets entangled in a dangerous mission in the Prime Universe that takes her on a wild ride of espionage, betrayal, questionable plot devices, o.t.t. performances and inexplicable accents! But what’s supposed to be a thrilling addition to the Star Trek universe quickly becomes a parade of missed opportunities, head-scratching decisions, and a plot that left us more confused than entertained. Though we try to be respectful (really, we do), this movie took us to the brink of madness, and we’re not holding back. Expect plenty of rants, raging, and witty references as we break down what went wrong, what could’ve been, and how Section 31 completely missed the mark on delivering a proper Star Trek experience. Grab your stress ball, but be prepared for a whole lot of fun and laughter too. Who knew you could have such a great time reviewing such a bomb!? Jump on the (incredibly fitting) garbage scow with our ragtag crew, because in the words of a certain Chameloid in this very film "we have trash, alright. Just trash!"

  • Silver Screen Podcast - Ghost in the Shell (1995) Review
    2025/03/27

Episode 110 - "Can you offer me proof of your existence? How can you, when neither modern science nor philosophy can explain what life is?"

Welcome back, to a mind-bending, futuristic episode of Silver Screen Podcast. We’re activating our thermoptic camouflage and diving deep into the cybernetic world of 'Ghost in the Shell'! Join host Michael Wilson and returning guests Tobi and Sandy as they plug into Mamoru Oshii’s seminal anime masterpiece—no hacking required. From Major Kusanagi’s existential musings to the eerie manipulations of the Puppet Master, we’re peeling back the layers of this cyberpunk classic faster than a cyborg ripping off its own arm. We’ll be discussing the film’s stunning animation, philosophical depth, and the sheer influence it’s had on Hollywood’s biggest sci-fi blockbusters. Is 'Ghost in the Shell' still ahead of its time, or has the real world finally caught up to its vision of a hyper-connected future? So jack into the net, fire up your cyberbrain, and let’s get into it—no hacking skills required. Whether you’re a seasoned Section 9 operative or just dipping your toes into the digital sea, we’ve got you covered. Just don’t let the Puppet Master rewrite your memories, and if you see a naked person mysteriously fading into thin air… well, that’s probably normal.
