Simplifying an Overwhelmed Life: Finding Joy in Less

  • サマリー

  • Hey friends! Welcome back to There Will Be Joy. If you're feeling overwhelmed by clutter—whether it's physical or mental—this episode is for you. We're diving into how to simplify your life and make room for what truly matters because joy isn’t found in chaos; it’s in clarity. My Journey to Simplification A few years ago, I lived by the "more is more" mentality—my home was packed, my calendar full, and I even had a farm with 90 animals! But I realized the overwhelm was taking a toll. After losing my husband at 29, I held onto many things, but eventually, I had to let go. I sold my dream house and farm, and while it was hard, the freedom I felt was incredible. Simplifying made room for the better things God had in store, like embracing motherhood with two little ones. Identifying the Sources of Overwhelm Ask yourself: What's causing the most stress? Is it endless to-do lists, a cluttered home, or external expectations? Identifying the source is the first step to simplifying. Biblical Perspective: Ecclesiastes 3:6 reminds us there’s "a time to keep and a time to throw away." God calls us to live freely, unburdened by clutter or commitments that no longer serve us. Declutter Your Space, Declutter Your Mind Your physical environment affects your mental state. Start small—clear one drawer or shelf. I’ve created a free decluttering checklist available in our Patreon community to help you start your journey. Practical Tips for Decluttering: Set a timer for 15 minutes a day.Try the “one in, one out” rule for new items. Simplify Your Schedule and Commitments It’s okay to say "no" to things that don’t align with your values. Overcommitment leads to burnout. Create daily rhythms that prioritize rest and connection over busyness, like family game nights or quiet mornings. Biblical Perspective: Matthew 11:28 reminds us, "Come to me, all you who are weary, and I will give you rest." Simplifying creates space for the rest God promises. Digital Detox and Mental Space Digital clutter can be just as overwhelming. Audit your digital life—unfollow accounts that don’t bring joy and set screen time limits. Try a digital detox this week and be fully present. Share your experience in our free Patreon community! Embrace the Beauty of Less There’s beauty in slowing down and embracing simplicity. It’s in these moments that we often find the most joy—whether it’s a walk in nature or a quiet evening with loved ones. Simplifying isn’t about having less; it’s about making room for what truly matters. Biblical Perspective: Psalm 46:10 says, "Be still, and know that I am God." Simplifying allows us to experience God's peace and presence. The Joyful Life Community is a wonderful space where you can connect with others who are also seeking to simplify their lives and find joy in less.
