This week, join the conversation with Paula Forteza, the owner of politically-engaged art gallery Artivistas.

Paula strikes me as the type of person who could do anything she sets her mind to. She is still young, but she’s lived multiple lives already. Franco-Argentina, she’s lived between both countries and she’s worked in many industries : from the fashion industry to politics. After a master of Public Affairs in France, Paula started working for the French government on open data policies. She then got elected as an MP under the Macron administration from 2017 to 2020. She quit politics in 2022 and went on to discover an entirely new industry : the world of art. This year, Paula opened an art gallery called Artivistas. Politics and the fight against social injustices still being an important part of her life, the art on display at her gallery is inherently political, and represents Latin American socially engaged artists.

We met up in the 9th arrondissement, in front of Paula’s art gallery. As we walked around the neighborhood, we talked about political art, the fear of starting new projects, and what it’s like to work as a French politician.

This week, join the conversation with Jean-Biche, a multidisciplinary artist who works in the world of cabaret.

Jean-Biche is based in Paris, although he has also spent a significant part of his life in Belgium. He went to art college in Brussels, where he started DJing and created his own party. From this, he got into cabaret, and has an exciting career as a performer. He was a resident artist at the Manko Cabaret, has worked with Paco Rabanne, Jean-Paul Gaultier & other designers. He’s a resident DJ at the Centre Pompidou and now runs his own cabaret show called Bas Nylon.

We met up on the Denfert-Rochereau place, right opposite the entrance to the Catacombs museum, in the 14th arrondissement. From there, we stayed in the theme of ossuaries, and walked through the Montparnasse Cemetery.

Throughout the stroll, we talk about skeletons, performing in the Manko Cabaret, and the concept of empowerment.

This week, join the conversation with Christopher Wheatley, director of photography, living and working in Paris.

Chris grew up in France, although his family comes from all around the world. He started his career a few years ago, after studying filmmaking at university. He’s done a lot of work filming music videos, and recently worked on an upcoming feature film with an American director.

Chris told me to meet him at the Esplanade Vidal-Naquet, in the 13th arrondissement in Paris, by the seine. He warned me this part of Paris tends to get windy before we met up, and you immediately understand why when you get there : the streets are wider than other parts of paris, with long open spaces and plenty of room for pedestrians. We were amongst big university buildings and the BNF’s impressive campus for most of the stroll. It felt like we were taking a break for the hustle of the city.

Throughout our stroll, we talked about filming for music videos, the stories cinemas carry, and taking ego out of the filmmaking process.

The Woman Cave Collective is a multidisciplinary collective founded by Chloé Macary-Carney and Léticia Chanliau that explores the notion of gender in spaces. Together, they have a design studio and edit The Woman Journal, a feminist, intersectional bi-annual journal that is published in both French and English.

We talked about their work as they took me around Montreuil, an eastern suburb of Paris. A map of our walk has been posted to the podcast's Instagram page.
