Jennifer Boyd, Elaine’s best friend, led family and friends in sharing memories of their time with Elaine. The teenager’s loved ones are determined that this will be the year that justice is served.

    Elaine Nix, 18, went to a payphone Sept. 20, 1999, at Zack’s Food Rack in Gainesville, Ga. to talk with her boyfriend. Nine days later, her body was found next to an industrial park in Gwinnett County, right over the line from Hall County.

    Elaine’s protector and older brother, David Nix Jr., tells stories about making “potions” and singing songs with his younger sister. Becky Nix, Elaine’s mother, keeps frog figurines around the house to remind her of her 18-year-old firecracker who was taken too soon.
