Join us as we sit down with the fantastic Dr. Regina K. Ybarra, who is a Program Head and professor of Psychology at the University of Texas at Dallas! In our debut episode, we talk about Dr. Ybarra's journey, from the twisting path that led her to discovering her interest in Psychology, to the surprising way she decided that teaching was for her. We then delve into her profession, talking about her day-to-day life, why she enjoys being a professor, as well as some of the common challenges she faces in this career. Dr. Ybarra earned her Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from The Ohio State University and completed her internship at the Salem VA Medical Center in Salem, Virginia; she now has over 15 years of teaching experience at several universities! She currently works at UTD, where she teaches a variety of courses including Introduction to Psychology, Abnormal Psychology, and Experimental Projects in Psychology. Dr. Ybarra has also conducted and published research on a variety of topics, including self-injurious behaviors and military sexual trauma. Along with that, she is a licensed psychologist in the state of Texas, specializing in cognitive-behavioral therapy for treatment of depression, anxiety, self-injurious behaviors, PTSD, sexual trauma, etc.
