Summary: This episode will show how a man is always better judged by his behavior than his beliefs because his behavior tells you his fundamental beliefs. Obedience leads to a deeper relationship with God and a more abundant life.
Exposition James 2:1-7 - Last week, we finished Chapter 1 of James, in which James showed the importance of putting spiritual truth into practice. The NT consistently condemns the fault of showing favoritism. Reading the present tense of the phrase reveals this was a practice already in progress. James prohibits what is already being done, which is inconsistent with our faith. God promised the KOG to those who love Him! Those who love Him will love others, either rich or poor. A person needs to remember their worth was inadequate and, therefore, moving forward to not show favoritism to those of wealth or social status.
Also, in this episode, Cooper highlights taking a word and interpreting its definition in one context, then applying the same meaning to a different context, called “word loading” or “illegitimate totality transfer.” Always remember that Context is King. Let the context define the word (literal, metaphorical, etc.).
The overarching theme in James helps us discover that Faith in Jesus will produce an active work in Jesus—living Coram Deo.
