  • Speak No Evil and Lee
    2024/09/19

If it's movies you love your in the right place! In Episode 34 of The Chronicle Film Podcast, Clotilde and Paul review Speak No Evil and Lee.

First film under the microscope is the English language remake of Danish psychological horror thriller Speak No Evil. Originally written and directed by brothers Christian and Mads Tafdrup (Christian onboard as an executive producer of the new version) All about a Danish family who befriend a Dutch family on holiday who invite the Danish family to an idyllic weekend in the Netherlands which slowly unravels into their worst nightmare. In the new version it's an British family (James McAvoy, Aisling Franciosi) who invite London based American family (McKenzie Davis, Scoot McNairy) to their old farmhouse in the West Country. The question many will be asking, is this a a like for like remake or does director James Watkins (Eden Lake, Woman In Black) twist original to deliver his own version?

Our horror maestro Bradley Hadcroft watched the original 2022 version for us at Sundance Film Festival that year (not FrightFest as Paul mentions in the episode), you can read his review here.

Second and final review for The Chronicle episode 34 is Ellen Kuras' Lee starring Kate Winslet. Some of you might wonder who Lee Miller is? She was considered one of pioneering female photographers, War photojournalists of World War 2 giving us some of the most iconic powerful images from the war. This film is a bit of a personal project for Kate Winslet who plays Lee, a one time fashion model for Vogue to become a photographer for the same magazine. She faced many barriers, she was a determined woman to get her way in life. Lee focuses on pre/World War 2 period of her life, the period she would meet her husband Roland Penrose (Alexander Skarsgard).

    2024/07/21

The chat from The Chronicle film Podcast, continues with The Chronicle Take 2. In this bonus episode to Episode 32, I review Summer blockbuster Twisters.

The first question many cinephiles are asking, is it a sequel to the 1996 Twister? No, it is set in the same universe and stars Daisy Edgar-Jones with Glenn Powell and Anthony Ramos. Twisters follows Kate (Edgar Jones) A once brilliant storm chaser haunted by old mistakes. Five years later she is lured back into chasing storms thanks to an old face. When danger lurks, superstar storm chaser Tyler Owens (Powell) is around, this drags Kate deep into the danger.
