    In this episode,  Dr. Daryll gives you the tea on intermittent fasting (IF), a simple yet effective way to lose weight and improve your health. She talks about the three main types of IF, how they work, and the benefits they offer.  She discusses the method she uses and how she started with intermittent fasting. 

    What is Intermittent Fasting?

    Intermittent fasting is a pattern of eating that cycles between periods of fasting and eating. There are many different ways to do IF, but the most common methods involve restricting your eating window to 8 hours or less per day or fasting for 24 hours once or twice per week.

    The Benefits of Intermittent Fasting

    IF has been shown to have a number of benefits for weight loss, health, and well-being. These benefits include:

    • Weight loss: IF can help you lose weight and body fat.
    • Improved insulin sensitivity: IF can help improve insulin sensitivity, which can help prevent or manage diabetes.
    • Reduced inflammation: IF can help reduce inflammation, which is linked to a number of chronic diseases.
    • Increased energy: IF can help increase energy levels.

    The Different Types of Intermittent Fasting

    There are many different ways to do IF, but the three most common methods are:

    • 16:8 method: This is the most popular type of IF. It involves fasting for 16 hours and eating during an 8-hour window.
    • Eat-stop-eat method: This method involves fasting for 24 hours once or twice per week.
    • 5:2 method: This method involves eating normally for 5 days and restricting your calories to 500-600 calories on 2 days per week.

    Which Type of Intermittent Fasting is Right for You?

    The best type of IF for you will depend on your individual goals and preferences. If you're new to IF, it's a good idea to start with the 16:8 method. Once you're comfortable with that, you can try other methods.

    How to Get Started with Intermittent Fasting

    If you're interested in trying IF, here are a few tips to get you started:

    • Start slowly: Don't try to do too much too soon. Start with the 16:8 method and gradually increase the fasting window as you get more comfortable.
    • Listen to your body: If you feel lightheaded or weak, break your fast.
    • Stay hydrated: Drink plenty of water and other fluids during your fasting window.
    • Eat healthy foods: When you do eat, make sure to eat healthy foods that will keep you feeling full.
    • Talk to your doctor: If you have any health conditions, talk to your doctor before starting IF.
