  • Episode 1: Art behind Bars
    2022/05/07
Alison Lapper presents the 'Drug of Art', exploring how art and creativity helps artists overcome dark and difficult times.
The Drug of Art is pleased to present our first guest, Garys Mansfield. Gary is an artist, curator and Ministry of Arts Podcast host, with a lived experience within the criminal justice system.
Gary discusses how art supported him to build a new life. His work, be it drawing, sculpture, installation, or even his curation has deep-rooted foundations of empathy, identity, social injustice and time. It is visually bold and inviting, whilst carrying a powerful and politically charged aesthetic.
Gary often gives public talks and discussions on the subjects of the benefits of art in prisons & rehabilitation and mental health, is an active advocate of ‘art for all’ and is trustee of two arts charities; The Sixteen Trust and Koestlert arts.
