Welcome back to the Eyes Of The Mind Series!

Today, we're honored to welcome Dr. Carmody. I must admit, I accidentally mispronounced her name a few times, so it's important to note that the emphasis is on the beginning. She holds the role of Associate Professor in both the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences and the Department of Psychology and Neuroscience. Beyond her academic roles, Dr. Carmody has recently assumed the position of Deputy Director at the National Center for Child Traumatic Stress, which is a collaborative effort between Duke University and UCLA. Prior to this, she dedicated nearly 14 years to the distinguished Center for Child and Family Health (CCFH), where she served as the Director of Early Childhood Prevention Programs.

Links that Dr.Carmody mentioned in the podcast:

To learn more about the National Center for Child Traumatic Stress (including a whole section on free online trainings), go to www.nctsn.org

To learn about the work of the Center for Child and Family Health go to www.ccfhnc.org

The nonprofit organization called Prevent Child Abuse NC has a free online training in both Spanish and English regarding the signs and symptoms, how and where to make a referral, and how to manage potential barriers to reporting, and resources to help. Go to: https://preventchildabusenc.org/online-trainings/

    · Darkness to Light – offers training focused on prevention of child sexual abuse, other forms of abuse as well as reporting. These are typically done in group settings – and could be useful for student groups and organizations. They also have virtual and individual online trainings. Their website has information on how to access certified trainers in the model. Go to: www.d2l.org and click on “Get Trained” to learn more or find a trained facilitator.
