    • Ways to build trust and rapport during conversations
    • Strategies for transitioning from discovery calls to initial paid appointments
    • The importance of having a systematic approach to discovery calls
    • How to measure and improve your discovery call performance

    Quotes:

    • "Marketing is not about closing a sale, it's about opening a relationship." (2:15 | Mike)
    • "You need to build that connection that people almost feel they're sort of in a coaching environment, that they can imagine how it would feel if they became your patient." (10:30 | Uli)
    • "The goal at this point in a discovery call is probably not to get the big commitment for a three or six months program, but you want to get them to commit to their first paid initial appointment." (14:45 | Uli)

The hosts outline a seven-step framework for discovery calls:

    1. Set the agenda for the call
    2. Ask what caused them to reach out
    3. Ask the pain question
    4. Explore how it makes them feel
    5. Discuss previous solutions tried
    6. Share relevant "case studies"
    7. Address their questions

Listen in to understand the importance of uncovering emotional motivations rather than just focusing on medical symptoms. Uli and Mike also discuss how to transition from discovery calls to initial paid appointments by offering a "test drive" approach rather than pushing for immediate commitment to longer programs.

The episode provides valuable insights for practitioners who struggle with the sales environment or feel anxious about discovery calls. Tune in for practical strategies to build confidence and improve conversion rates while maintaining professional integrity.

  • 012: Increasing Discovery Call Conversions
    2024/11/19

In this episode, Uli Iserloh and Mike Kim provide practical, tactical advice for health practitioners looking to turn more discovery calls into committed patients – without feeling sleazy or pushy. They explain what needs to happen before you even get on a discovery call to increase your conversion rates while staying true to your values as a heart-centered practitioner.

This episode is part one of a two-part series diving deep into discovery call mastery. In this first installment, Uli and Mike focus on the critical pre-call elements and mindset shifts needed to set yourself up for success.

    Listen in to learn:

    • How to use intake forms strategically to create psychological commitment before the call
    • Why the "persuasion process" starts long before the actual discovery call
    • The three types of objections prospects have and how to address them proactively
    • How to shift from a "closing" mindset to an "opening relationships" approach
    • Why the DIY-to-professional care transition is your prospect's first crucial decision
    • The importance of addressing modality, internal, and external objections before the call

    Quotes:

    • "Marketing isn't about closing a sale. It's about opening a relationship. So what do we do in good relationships? We hold space for the other person." (Mike Kim)
    • "Selling is serving. If you want to serve them, then you have to get them to enroll." (Uli Iserloh)
    • "People will do anything for those who justify their failures, allay their fears, throw rocks at their enemies, confirm suspicions, and encourage their dreams." (Mike Kim)
    • "The first decision that they have to make on social media is, do I want to abandon the DIY approach? Do I want to maybe abandon the conventional medical approach?" (Uli Iserloh)

  • 010: Future-Proofing Your Practice With Tom Blue
    2024/11/05
Super excited about my latest podcast episode featuring Tom Blue, a veteran strategist in the functional medicine space. Tom has dedicated most of the last 20 years to researching and synthesizing new approaches in primary care and personal health management... ... and as part of our series on the evolution of medicine, I asked him to share how health practitioners can future-proof their practices. You see, Tom has a very keen understanding of what works in the functional medicine space from his days as the chief strategy officer for the Institute for Functional Medicine... ... so I asked him what he'd do if he were to start a practice from scratch: How would you go about launching a practice?Would you niche down into a certain area, and if so, which one?How would you ensure that lifestyle changes stick? What technologies and trends will dominate the next decade in healthcare? One of the interesting nuggets Tom shared was a study he conducted a few years back, called the Disease Activation Index – examining 15 conditions and the patients' willingness to engage in care (and pay out of pocket). Quotes “We have essentially handed over control of curating our health care to a payer that only seldom has our interests at heart. So think about what your car or your house would look like, if the only things you did to take care of it were covered by Geico. And so that if you think about the declining state of the American human condition, from a health standpoint, I think a lot of it has to do with this very thing. It's like preventive care, that root cause resolution of things. These are more value judgments than things that pose the risk of financial ruin. So they're not really in the domain of what insurance should cover anyway. But unfortunately, most consumers have yet to wade into that reality.” (8:29-9:10 | Tom Blue) Audiogram“If you're wanting to solve pains, focus on conditions that are painful and where the healthcare system leaves people wanting more.” (15:41-15:48 | Tom Blue)“There's this astonishingly large population of people that a year ago, two years ago, were essentially the picture of health and function. And all of a sudden, they can't walk around the block without being completely exhausted.” (16:50-17:05 | Tom Blue)“Unlike a lot of chronic conditions that, like the frog in the pot of boiling water, progress so slowly you're constantly recalibrating what normal is and you forget how good you used to feel, Long COVID is the opposite of that.” (17:23-17:35 | Tom Blue) “The only way we have to quantify health historically has been our bathroom scale, which is generally a bad news generator. Now that we have tools like an Aura Ring, you've got this high resolution continuous picture of your health in many different dimensions. And there’s good news to be found in it.” (26:36-26:57 | Tom Blue)“Don't mistake the opportunity for Long COVID with the frustration of dealing with the fast moving world of acute COVID. This is a big opportunity, not only to grow your practice, but quite frankly, to put a massive stake into the ground around the power of root cause medicine and an opportunity to build an evidence base that I think is of huge significance for the whole field.” (29:19-29:43 | Tom Blue) ==== Thank You For Listening!
