  • #035 - Healthusiasm in Paediatric Care
    2024/10/25

    Share you Healthusiasm

Welcome to Episode 35 of the Healthusiasm Podcast with your host, Christophe Jauquet, health business expert and author of the Healthusiasm books. Joining him today are Dr. Keith Grimes, a digital expert in medical innovation, and Mo Zouina, a human experience expert.

    • Today’s focus: Paediatric care and why there’s not enough innovation or attention given to child health.
    • The problem: While 24% of the UK population are children, only 11% of the healthcare budget is spent on them. Mental health needs are growing fast, with an 82% rise in eating disorders among children since 2019, and waiting times for care are much longer compared to adults.
    • The solution: The team explores how we can shift focus to improve paediatric care by increasing funding, innovation in medical technology, and improving parenting skills to support children’s health and well-being. Examples like Denmark’s BørneRiget children's hospital show how we can build better care environments by involving all stakeholders—parents, doctors, and the children themselves.

Let’s dive in to find out how we can better shape the future of children's health!

  • #034 - Healthusiasm from September
    2024/10/16

    Share you Healthusiasm

In this 2nd episode of the 3rd season, the hosts discuss various innovative health trends while having a great laugh and fun with:

    • Mo's best Tony Robbins impersonation.
    • The medical urgency when Dr. Keith runs out of ADHD medication.
    • Dogs & Cats as pen palls.
    • Foodporn making you healthier
    • 'Poem'cetamol and bath bombs
    • The worrying demand for sausages

But there was also some seriousness about recent trends and innovations, of course:
Mo introduces a "living band-aid" developed at the University of Chicago, which integrates living bacteria and electronic sensors to help heal wounds more effectively. Christophe talks about Sweden's plans to create state-owned pharmaceutical manufacturers to prevent drug shortages, supported by the EU for Health program. Dr. Keith shares a story about the Youth and Pet Survivors program, where children undergoing cancer treatment write letters to pets facing similar conditions to support their emotional well-being. They also discuss Tony Robbins' new luxury wellness and longevity resort chain, highlighting the emergence of medical tourism and its impact on healthcare access and equity.

The episode ends with a discussion about well-being, emphasizing the importance of balance. Christophe refers to Lululemon's recent well-being report, which reveals that increased focus on well-being does not necessarily lead to improved health and often causes stress. The conversation highlights that personal well-being is not solely about constant improvement but also about our aspirations in life: acceptance, prevention, and enjoyment of life. Welcome to the first episode of Season 3 of the Healthusiasm Podcast! In this episode, we dive into a provocative and timely debate with **Christophe Jauquet**, a health business expert, and **Dr. Keith Grimes**, a medical expert in digital innovation. Together, we explore a fundamental question in healthcare today: *Are we too focused on curing and not enough on caring?*

Historically, care was the cornerstone of medicine, especially when we lacked advanced tools for cure. But with the rise of modern medicine, scientific revolutions, and now AI, has the balance shifted too much towards curing diseases while neglecting the human element of care? Join us as we debate whether healthcare is at a tipping point where we need to refocus on care, what this means for medical professionals, and how technology can help reshape the future of healthcare. It's a conversation that will challenge the way we think about health, care, and innovation.

    Realising Innovations in Healthcare Institutions

In the latest episode of The Healthusiasm Podcast, the panel dives into the evolving landscape of healthcare innovation and happiness. This episode features an international expert panel, including Aline Noizet, Dr. Aditi U. Joshi, and Dr. Keith Grimes. They share their insights on emerging digital health trends, focusing on realising innovations in healthcare institutions.

As this podcast is recorded at HLTH.Europe, the discussion started the unique advantages of European healthcare events, noting how their manageable scale fosters deeper, more meaningful connections. The conversation shifts to how collaboration between hospitals and startups is not just crucial, but also inspiring in advancing healthcare innovations. The panel highlights the importance of pilot programs, which allow startups to test their solutions in real-world healthcare environments. These pilots are not just about testing technology but about building long-term relationships. The panel emphasises the need for startups to spend time within hospitals, understanding the organisational structure, workflows, and even winning over the skeptics to ensure successful integration.

The experts also discuss how hospitals and accelerators are increasingly working together to bridge the gap between innovation and practical application. This includes learning from pilots, identifying success metrics early on, and ensuring a clear path forward for broader adoption within healthcare systems. The key takeaway is that innovation thrives when both hospitals and startups align their goals and collaborate closely, paving the way for technologies that can genuinely transform patient care.

Wrapping up, the discussion underscores the themes of holistic care and collaboration as central to the future of healthcare innovation. It also shines a light on startups, playing a pivotal role in addressing complex healthcare challenges. This partnership with hospitals to create sustainable, impactful solutions is a beacon of hope and optimism for the future of healthcare.
