  • EPISODE 101: The Hard Conversation About Money
    2024/11/14

    In this episode …

As you get older, money habits are either good or bad.

While we still have several viable work years ahead of us, odds are that our age might affect our earning potential in the next few years. We are both 58.

The Motley Fool website recently posted this:

“It was not surprising that 77% of retirees used Social Security as a source of retirement income, and 92% of those over 65 did so. Social Security benefits are meant to replace 40% of your annual salary in retirement, which is why preparing for retirement through saving and investing is so important.”

    And many people don’t save.

Financial planning for us - and everyone, frankly - is a must.

In this episode we talk about shifting our financial priorities to better prepare ourselves for a retirement future that is creeping closer.

  • EPISODE 100: The Reality of Politics and Dating in 2024
    2024/11/05

    In this episode …

Cathy loves our banter at the beginning of each episode and in this particular moment she wants to dive head-first into our disagreement on Wordle.

But then we get into the meat of the podcast.
Dating is hard enough, especially as we get older. With Red State / Blue State thinking, finding a mate becomes even more difficult.
Never before in our lifetime was politics such a divisive topic between families, friends and sadly … prospective dating.
When we were in college, we rarely talked about politics and certainly the topic would never halt our choice to try and date (read: sleep with) someone. If anything, it was religion that made us young daters nervous because we were afraid our PARENTS would object.
But this climate of politics? It’s often the single, biggest filter placed on people’s online dating profiles.
    Sad, perhaps, and true.

  • EPISODE 99: The Inevitable Life Changes
    2024/10/28

    In this episode …

First, we have a beef with Kara Swisher and Scott Galloway for “stealing” or creative podcast introduction of talking first before then moving to our intro … as if this is actually something to be stolen.

Still, it seems very interesting that we’ve been writing them and then suddenly their podcast intro resembles ours. Coincidence? Hmmmm …

Many changes in life happen at a moments notice. That phone call you weren’t expecting. The results from a doctor’s appointment. And so on.

And while nothing terrible happened to us, and to not be too dramatic here, our dear friend and counselor, Linda, notified us that she is retiring.

It’s not a death for sure however it is a change, neither good nor bad. Simply a change which means a change for us.

  • EPISODE 98: The Honeymoon
    2024/10/22

    In this episode …

Well, we are now married. After meeting 3 1/2 years ago on a dating app, we’ve closed the deal.

And of course, there’s the honeymoon and consummation of our love and commitment (SMH).

A trip to the UK visiting London, Bristol (to be with family) and Scotland (Edinburgh) was simply amazing.

We travel quite well together (always have and it’s one of our commonalities) because we tend to not make any touristy plans.

Yes, we stumbled into Beg Ben so we can say that we “saw Big Ben.”

Otherwise, we actually enjoyed the spontaneity of walking down cute streets and letting the city show herself.

So what’s next? That will be in the next podcast.

  • EPISODE 96: The Craziness of Our Upcoming Marriage
    2024/09/29

    In this episode …

We re-hash our “Secret” conversation form the last episode, an episode we didn’t want to produce.

And then we dive into how stunned we are to be getting married in one week.

Were we lucky? Were we active in the dating seen to increase chances? Were we completely self-aware and unrelenting in our pursuit of what we wanted? Who knows. Maybe all of the above.

But here we are, one week away from getting married and we reflect on us and how grateful we are for the wonder of our life.

  • EPISODE 94: The Challenge of Parenting Adult Children
    2024/09/10

    In this episode …

During dinner with good friends, we talked about the challenges of parenting adult children. Or perhaps a better way to describe our conversation might be this: how do you push the kids out of the proverbial nest without bracing their potential fall.

We all hope, as parents, that we’ve done a ton of work preparing our children for adulthood. Still, we often want to protect and insulate them as often as possible?

Is our challenge rooted in reaction to the ways in which our parents raised us?

    Probably.

    But there’s likely much more.

Social media plays an enormous role and our generation of children are the first to grow up with social media and we are the first set of parents trying to navigate its complexities for ourselves and our children.

**Errors, omissions and other idiocies: We are idiots. We did not do our homework. We mistakenly said that Amy and David Sedaris were from Chicago. They are clearly not. They spent some time in Chicago at 2nd City. To this end, we are truly sorry.**
