This reboot is features a controversial topic within Lost Beat 6. The Grateful Dead. Known amongst most as the ultimate standard-bearer for the psychedelic jam band, the Dead have been called a number of epithets and have blended into various subgenres of rock music some have made them famous, others notorious. However one genre they have never been associated with is progressive rock. This category has been reserved for the acts that had developed out of the British psychedelia movements of the late Sixties. It the opinion of this writer and podcast host that not only are The Grateful Dead a progressive rock band, but the greatest of the American progressives. Such a bold stance behooves this case to be brought before the committe of a dude named Sean.
We discuss what are the tenants of British progressive rock and how that applies to the Dead's own creative universe.
