  • In Memory of bell hooks: A conversation w/Dr. Alex Moffett-Bateau and Dr. Alexis Pauline Gumbs
    2022/09/27

In honor of bell hooks birthday, this week I am releasing a very special recording. On the day bell hooks passed to the ancestral realm, I was lucky to be able to talk to my mentor and sista-friend, Dr. Alexis Pauline Gumbs. Notably, it was also the first time I spoke publicly about an idea I'd developed after reading bell hooks' work (once again), the politics of niceness.

This was an emotional conversation, so get your tissues ready. We laughed and cried for a wonderful hour, discussing the many ways bell hooks touched our lives, and our Black feminism. I hope you enjoy it.

  • Episode One: colorism is a system, it has nothing to do with your feelings
    2022/04/14

Welcome to Episode One of the Politics of Freedom.

In episode one I briefly introduce what the Politics of Freedom is all about.

After that, I jump right into the fire, with a discussion of colorism!

Let me know what you think about the discussion on Instagram and Twitter @AlexMBateau

    ------

Gen Z folks who are doing some interesting work on colorism:

    - Check out Tee Noir

    - Also take a look at Khadija Mbowe's work

    - Mayowa's World does quite a bit of work on colorism, and its worth checking out their YouTube.
