The Downtown St. John’s Christmas Parade has become an annual Christmas tradition for many people across town, and the parade sees the collaboration of a variety of groups from all over St. John's. Gaylynne Lambert is the CEO (that's the Chief Elf Officer) of the parade, and she joined us on the line this morning for all the details.

The owners of the The Christmas House in St. John's were taken to court two years ago, for operating without a permit. That case was thrown out, and the city has since appealed that decision. In the studio this morning we were joined by Ivy Hanley, the owner of The Christmas House. She also runs Urban Market 1919 on Lemarchant Road.

Avalon Sport and Social Club has dubbed itself as "recess for adults" -- offering an inclusive, accessible, and supportive community, that's encouraging grown-ups to "just play." The winter registration is now open to teams and players. To tell us more about it, Nicole Carlson joined us over the line today. She runs the group's St. John's branch.

The non-profit organization End Homelessness St. John's recently released a four year plan to address the issue of homelessness in the St. John's area. It involves all levels of government and community partners, working together. Our Morning show reporter, Darrell Roberts, joined us in the studio this morning to break it down for us.

More Canadians across the country are struggling to put food on their tables, according to new data from food banks. In St. John's, a 2019 study found that around half of MUN students have experienced food insecurity. Now, the campus food bank and Food First NL have come together with a survey to see the full picture of food insecurity on campus. Madi Hynes, a program assistant with Food First NL and PhD candidate at MUN, came to tell us more.

The American publishing company Harper Collins is offering to pay authors to use their work to train AI models. In studio with us this morning we were joined by local author Elisabeth de Mariaffi, who has had her own work used to train AI models in the past --- without her consent. HarperCollins Canada has been her publisher since 2015. We heard what her thoughts were on the matter.

A drug that police say is 25 times more potent than fentanyl has been found in this province. In studio this morning we were joined by John Weber, a professor in Memorial University's School of Pharmacy. He's also a member of the Board of Directors, of the Canadian Centre on Substance Use and Addiction.

National Day of the Child is a Canada-wide initiative that highlights the impact of affordable childcare. Child Care Now NL is encouraging the continuation of 10-dollars-a-day childcare in this province, and are participating in ten days of action, kickstarting today.
