• What Happens When Your Authenticity Annoys People
    2025/02/26

Today we discuss the challenges of staying true to oneself, especially in the face of public and private scrutiny.

You'll hear Stephen using Kendrick Lamar's Super Bowl halftime show as an example of how authenticity can provoke mixed reactions and how embracing your true self requires bravery and courage to do so.

We explore the importance of being genuine, despite potential backlash, and the pressures of social media to conform.

We also explore procrastination, isolation, the value of failure, and the challenges of delegation and micromanagement.

  • Love Your Differences
    2025/02/05

Today we discuss the importance of embracing and valuing individual differences, inspired by Stephen's recent viewing of the film, "Wicked."

We explore how society often judges people based on appearance, voice, or other unique traits, and stress the need for kindness and respect.

These judgments often extend to the workplace, highlighting the impact of judgment on inclusivity, particularly regarding neurodiversity and personal expression like tattoos.

We encourage you, the listener, to reflect on your own biases and foster environments where everyone feels valued and accepted.

Firstly, we are not experts on this and we implore you to contact one of the two christies just mentioned and the many others out there.

What we aim to do is help if we can. Perhaps someone listening to this podcast is having these thoughts and if they are then this is what we’d like them to consider.

What to look out for in others:

    • Changes in behaviour
    • Expressing feelings of hopelessness
    • Giving away possessions
    • Talking about death or suicide
    • Engaging in risky behaviours

    How to help someone:

    • Give Them a Chance to Talk...
    • Ask gentle, open questions like “What thoughts have been going through your mind?” and let them guide the conversation. Don’t worry about silences.
    • Avoid asking “Why?” which can sound like blaming.
    • Listen Without Judgement...
    • Don’t debate whether suicide is right or wrong. Understand that this seems like the only choice for them now.
    • Accept all their feelings as valid - anger, sadness, shame, hopelessness, etc.
    • Offer Hope...
    • Remind them that there are always alternatives and that this pain is temporary
    • Note that they’ve overcome difficulties before.
    • Help them identify reasons for living

  • Shades of Grey
    2025/01/15

Today we discuss the importance of recognising life's complexities beyond a binary perspective and the need for understanding "shades of grey" to improve communication and emotional intelligence for ourselves and when interacting with others.

Sharing insights from Stephen's work with armed forces and paramedics, you'll hear examples of professions that often adopt a black-and-white viewpoint due to having to make high-stakes decisions; and the challenges that come with that.

We also reflect on challenges with clients who hold rigid views, highlighting the necessity of exercising flexibility and empathy and embracing open-mindedness in both personal and professional contexts.

As coaches and content creators, we know the duty of care that comes with disseminating information, particularly in health and nutrition.

And it starts by getting clear on distinguishing between opinion and fact.

Hear why we recommend to you, the listener, the importance of conducting your own research, and why it is important to get clear on the broader implications of misinformation; in the age of social media.
