The Steven Watt Episode

  • サマリー

  • This week I catch up with Steven Watt, the Young Hearts Run Free podcast's cohost and all-around good guy.

Steven and his co-host John Cassidy have been in my lugs (ears for non-Scottish people) on most of my long runs and for almost the entire time I have been doing ultras so it is an honour to be able to catch up with them and to turn the mic round and hear their stories.

    We talked about:

    • The familiar story of football, injury - need to do something so running
    • Go big or go home for his one-and-done marathon
    • The slow burn that eventually saw the marathon majors getting ticked off
    • Meeting 'that work guy' (John) who talks about this weird thing called an ultramarathon
    • Mario Karting and the Tokyo Marathon for his sixth and final world marathon major

    The Hot Takes:

    1. Find your why that is beyond chasing numbers
    2. Be open to finding and changing the tribe that you are part of and one that aligns with who you want to be
    3. The consistent theme of consistency is the key to any improvement

    Let's Connect

    • You can follow Steven on Instagram @wattinperth or @youngheartsrunfreepodcast - there is also Youtube version so you can see their pretty faces
