Judah offers himself as a slave in place of Benjamin, explaining how losing Benjamin would devastate their father. This act of selflessness deeply moves Joseph.

The famine persists, and Jacob reluctantly sends Benjamin with his sons to Egypt. They take double the silver and gifts for the Egyptian ruler.

Joseph hosts a feast upon seeing Benjamin, his full brother. He is overcome with emotion but conceals his feelings. The brothers are seated according to their birth order, astonishing them. Benjamin receives a larger portion of food, hinting at Joseph's favoritism.

Jacob, hearing of grain in Egypt, sends ten of his sons (excluding Benjamin) to buy food. Joseph recognizes his brothers but conceals his identity. He accuses them of being spies and imprisons them for three days.

Joseph tests them by demanding they bring Benjamin to Egypt to prove their honesty. He secretly returns their payment in their grain sacks. The brothers express guilt over selling Joseph into slavery, unaware he understands their Hebrew. Simeon is detained as collateral while the others return to Canaan. Upon discovering the returned silver, they fear God’s judgment.

Pharaoh dreams of seven healthy cows devoured by seven lean cows and seven full ears of grain consumed by seven thin ears. None of Pharaoh's magicians can interpret the dreams. Pharaoh’s cupbearer remembers Joseph, still imprisoned, and recommends him.

Joseph interprets the dreams as a warning from God: seven years of abundance will be followed by seven years of famine. He advises Pharaoh to appoint a wise administrator to prepare for the famine by storing surplus grain. Impressed, Pharaoh appoints Joseph as second-in-command over Egypt. Joseph is given authority, dressed in fine robes, and marries Asenath, daughter of an Egyptian priest. During the years of plenty, Joseph oversees the collection of surplus grain. He has two sons: Manasseh (God has made me forget my troubles) and Ephraim (God has made me fruitful in affliction). When the famine begins, people from all nations come to Egypt for food.
