UNDERSTANDING THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE BAPTISM OF JOHN THE BAPTISM AND THE BAPTISM OF JESUS THE CHRIST One of the implications that differentiate the baptism of Christ from the baptism of John the Baptist is the seal of the Holy Spirit that one receives into sonship of God after the immersion. Before Christ Came to be baptized and to baptize, John the Baptist was baptizing people with water unto repentance, which was the pathway to their faith in God and salvation. The Baptism of John was and is never the same with the baptism of the Jesus the Christ. John was there preparing or making the way for the Messiah, none of the people John had baptized ever received the seal of the Holy Spirit except Jesus the Christ. The Baptism of John the Baptist led men into repentance unto salvation but was never the pathway to Sonship of God. Repentance is not salvation either ways, repentance is the pathway way to salvation. John Baptized people for the forgiveness of their sins. But the point is that although their sins were forgiven, the sins were not taken, and that is why when He saw Jesus Christ, John the Baptist testified in the gospel according to John 1:29-34 NKJV [29] The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world! This means John clearly mentions that his Baptism didn't take away the sins of men but rather led them into their inner conviction over their sins and unrighteousness in readiness to their forgiveness of their sins, turning back to God to receive His salvation through Jesus the Christ. The thing about the Baptism was to point people to Christ, the Baptism of John was the revelation of the salvation of Christ that comes from His death and one must be baptized to be saved. For John has never dared to equate himself with Christ nor His work. Whatever John was doing, was only making the way for the Messiah, the Baptism of John was important in those days because to was for the remission of sins from God, but it was not the preferred way for God to offer an ultimate forgiveness and doing away with the sins of many, it was not a preferred way to offer salvation to the people for eternal life and salvation but it was a way to salvation. The Baptism of John was for water that convince man to see a need for repentance but not the actual repentance that resides in Christ. John was important but not the preferred way for salvation, he was important to announce, the arrival, and to show people and all men who is the Messiah theh waited upon? Where is He? What do we need to do to be saved by Him? These questions that were answered in the days of John the Baptist were very important, people were not looking for a prophet but for the Messiah, if they find a prophet the He need to have the revelation of the awaited Christ, the one who was even much more preferred to Baptize was not John but Jesus the Christ. John 1:24-27 NKJV [24] Now those who were sent were from the Pharisees. [25] And they asked him, saying, “Why then do you baptize if you are not the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the Prophet?” Here they didn't know that John was Elijah and that he was authorized by God to Baptize with water for the remissions of people sins but John had not the ability to take away the sins of the world as Jesus would do. The Pharisees in search for the Messiah ended up questioning John's authority of Baptizing people, John needed to clarify that he was not the Messiah and that he was not baptizing with the Baptism of fire and spirit which is the Baptism of Jesus the Christ. lets see His response, John 1:26 John answered them, saying, “I baptize with water, but there stands One among you whom you do not know. In other words I Baptize for forgiveness but not for sanctification, well in regard to your question about the Messiah you are looking for, there He is among you, in other words the Pharisees they have eyes but they can't see Emmanuel (God with us) they can't see the Messiah because they don't know Him, so the ministry of John is prominent to help the see, know and recognize who the Messiah is and where He is located. The ministry of John and is coming was prophesied by prophet Malachi 1 “See, I will send my messenger, and he will prepare the way before me. And the Lord, whom you seek, will suddenly come to his temple; the messenger of the covenant, whom you delight in. See, he is coming”, says the LORD of hosts. Malachi 3:1 But to understand more about His Baptism John the Baptist, lets see in the book of Acts 19:4 4 Then Paul said, “John indeed baptized with the baptism of repentance, telling the people that they should believe on him who was to come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus”. The Baptism of John was messange to believe in Him who will come after, Him meaning it was pointing to the Messiah, to salvation, though itself was not the salvation. The Baptism of John was ...
