Therapy Made Me a Feminist

著者: Brittany Bullen
  • サマリー

  • Welcome to Therapy Made Me a Feminist, a channel where evidence-based practices meet personal stories about healing and finding joy after adversity. I’m a feminist therapist with lived experience navigating a high-demand religion—specifically, the LDS (Mormon) church—and I’ve seen firsthand how it affects mental health. Growing up in a mixed-faith family and conservative regions like Utah, Oklahoma, and Texas, I’ve faced my own mental health challenges, especially the weight of religious and cultural shame. In this series, I explore the impact of patriarchal systems on mental well-being, especially within tightly-knit, faith-based communities. My goal is to uncover how these systems, often deeply ingrained in conservative cultures, affect all individuals, regardless of gender. From my therapeutic work here in Utah to my personal journey, I’m here to share insights on healing and navigating these complex spaces.

  • "Conditional" and "the Man" wants you to believe that unconditional means unprotected! (PG)
    2024/11/13

Psst... just because you love them unconditionally doesn't mean you owe them endless tolerance!

In this episode, we dive into the true meaning of unconditional love and how the Man has twisted it into something it's not. We’re taught that to love unconditionally means to sacrifice our well-being, to tolerate mistreatment, and to put others' needs before our own, endlessly. But here’s the truth: love doesn’t require abandoning your boundaries. In fact, real love includes them.

Join us as we unpack the myth that unconditional means unprotected and explore how setting limits doesn’t diminish our love but strengthens it. We’ll discuss the power of boundaries, how to hold love and self-respect in the same space, and why saying enough can be the most loving choice of all. Because unconditional love doesn’t mean unconditional tolerance—it means staying true to ourselves and others, honestly.

  • "Meeting" and "the Man" wants to keep us apart!
    2024/11/12

Psst... "the Man" LIKES it when we struggle to understand each other!

In this episode, I team up with Meredith Ethington from Perfection Pending to explore how black-and-white thinking drives wedges between us, even within families. Together, we dive into the subtle (and not-so-subtle) ways "the Man" fuels division, making it harder to find common ground or true understanding.

We also discuss my vision for SafeHuman, a resource in the making that would aim to provide a lifeline for anyone in crisis who feels alone and without support. We talk about why access to safe, understanding connections is essential and how SafeHuman could help bridge the gap for those in need.

Tune in for an eye-opening conversation about unity, support, and the power of seeing the full spectrum in others.
