On this day in the mob, September 8th 1986, the most infamous mafia trial of all time began. It included the bosses, underbosses, and consiglieres of all five New York mafia families. It was an epic trial that propelled a young US attorney named Rudolph Guiliani into stardom and sent the New York Mafia reeling. But as we know the mafia does say die. On this day in the mob, September 7th 1978, San Jose Mafia boss Joseph Cerrito passed away of natural causes. He was one of the mob bosses captured at the infamous Appalachian Mafia Summit in 1957. He was an extremely under the radar Mob Boss who also had numerous extremely successful legitimate ventures as well. He actually sued LIFE  Magazine  in 1967 when they accused him on being the Mafia boss of San Jose. The suit was tossed when the it came of course Cerrito actually was the boss of SJ. On this day in the mob, September 6th 2003 Marcello Marshall Caifano passed away. The Chicago and Las Vegas gangster was involved in numerous high profile mafia hits.
