Our latest episode is all you need to help you get over the end of summer! Entertaining sports yarns about the '69 Miracle Mets, Ben Johnson's brief Olympic glory, Taylor Swift's first NFL game and "The Greatest Show on Turf". Plus interesting glimpses about Jackie Joyner-Kersee, the founding of the World Hockey Association and Lennox Lewis' controversial first loss as a pro. You'd think we'd just stop there, but no - we convinced Blue Jays "third man in the booth" stats expert Scott Carson to join the show as well! Scott has seen it all over the last four decades of watching MLB games and he uses all his knowledge to help dissect our latest DORK DRAFT (TM) of which baseball players are in our HALL OF VERY GOOD. Not necessarily Hall of Famers, but worthy of some recognition. This episode is available on YouTube or wherever you listen to your podcasts.

The final instalment of our episodes recorded live from the Globus Theatre in Bobcaygeon! In front of a raucous live audience we've got lively discussions about Mark McGwire and Sammy Sosa's race for the home run record in '98, Wilma Rudolph becoming the fastest woman alive Greg Maddux doing Greg Maddux things and Venus and Serena setting another precedent in pro tennis. We also talk about the '72 Summit Series in Vancouver, Fergie Jenkins' drug suspension and the Tonya Harding mockumentary movie (I, Tonya). On top of that, longtime NHL veteran Cory Stillman - who won Stanley Cups with both Carolina and Tampa - stops by to talk about his playing career and his excitement about being named the new Head Coach of the OHL's Guelph Storm. Our DORK DRAFT was us picking who we thought were his best NHL teammates and coaches and Cory sets us straight on who got it right, giving us some inside dope on life in the National Hockey League. It'll all be there for you on YouTube (like and subscribe, please!) and everywhere else you listen to your favourite podcasts.

As the kids head back to school this week, the gang at TDIS are also sharing some knowledge. Our latest episode features great discussions about Cal Ripken Jr's record-breaking night, the '72 Summit Series coming to Winnipeg and Chris Evert's dominance not getting enough recognition. We've also got quirky, detailed stuff about the first pro sports league to have pay equity for men and women, what could have been a horrible accident for a Dodgers player in the on-deck circle, and the extraordinary life of American Olympic pentathlete Rafer Johnson. On top of that, in our DORK DRAFT we make prediction picks for the upcoming NFL season and we've got film director Vivieno Caldinelli here to sort out whose picks he liked best. Viv, whose latest movie "Scared Shitless" is just making its way around the festival circuit these days, is a knowledgeable, passionate San Francisco 49ers fan and he spares no one's feelings in his assessment of our first-ever set of NFL prognostications. As the summer starts to wind down, we're still shining brightly with this latest episode. It features great stories about sports icons like George Brett, Usain Bolt, Ronda Rousey and John McEnroe. We've also got stories you probably don't know about golfers breaking records, Heisman Trophy winners becoming dentists, failed pitch-com precursors and multi-generational MLB families. It's exactly the combination of funny, obscure and opinionated that you've come to expect from the four of us at TDIS. On top of that, actor/comic/Food Network host John Catucci ("You Gotta Eat Here", "Big Food Bucket List") joins the show and helps us sort through this DORK DRAFT of the best food and drink commercials that featured famous athletes. John is really funny with a great recall and his appearance is a really funny deep dive into some of the best (and worst) ads you've ever seen that will keep you laughing and reminiscing throughout. It's available on YouTube (don't forget to like and subscribe!) or wherever else you get podcasts and don't forget to follow us on Instagram (@thisdayinsports8), on X (@TDISports8) and on Facebook, too.

Today's episode was recorded live at one of our shows in Bobcaygeon. The crowd was great, the vibes were good and the sports talk was fantastic! We had great chats about Tommy Lasorda, Kevin Lowe, JR Richard, Sidney Crosby and the launching of the NBA's covid-shortened season. Plus great stuff about the first-ever World Cup, a record day for the Montreal Expos and Michael Jordan's first minor league home run. On top of that, we're joined by author Andrew Forbes for a chat about baseball and then we welcome father/son hockey duo Mike and Porter Martone. Mike is a local legend for his famous game-winning goal that sent the 1996 Peterborough Petes to the Memorial Cup and his son Porter is a top prospect for the 2025 NHL Draft. They're both great dudes and help judge our DORK DRAFT of the best hockey players ever to come from the Kawarthas. It's a great time had by all. Find it on YouTube (please remember to like and subscribe) or wherever you usually get your podcasts. Find us on Instagram @thisdayinsports8 and on X @TDISports8.

  • July 9 - MMA commentator Robin Black

As we move into our second year, we continue to focus on getting better. Of course we've got the usual great content about iconic sports names like Wayne Rooney, Secretariat, Wimbledon, Jack Nicklaus and Tom Watson. There's also lots of silly stuff about mascots being injured, double plays being turned with broken legs, a broken nose during team photos and the oldest All-Star in baseball history. The real game-changer, though is that this episode sees the three of us break into new territory: to commemorate the eight-year anniversary of UFC 200 in Vegas, we used this episode's DORK DRAFT to select our picks of the four greatest MMA fighters of all-time. The truth is that none of us is even remotely well-informed about mixed martial arts, so we invited peerless TSN MMA expert Robin Black on to the show to help take us to school. Robin is as knowledgeable about the current fight game (and its history) as anyone on this planet and is hilariously irreverent, so he was an absolute perfect fit. Our longest episode ever goes by in a heartbeat, because Robin is so smart, generous and funny, admonishing our ignorance A LOT. Listen along as we three 'pre-casuals' get humbled by someone who actually knows what they're talking about! Find us on YouTube (please like and follow) and on IG @thisdayinsports8.

Happy Canada Day, everybody (or Dominion Day, as some folks call it). Today's episode was recorded in front of a raucous live audience at the Globus Theatre in beautiful Bobcaygeon, Ontario. It features great, funny sports stories and discussions about Burt Reynolds' bad career decisions, MLB: The Show, Greg Norman playing from a parking lot, Derek Jeter being overrated and A League of Their Own. Plus 'quick hits about Joe DiMaggio, the first-ever Tour de France, Comiskey Park and Jaromir Jagr. On top of that, we're joined by actor Reed Diamond for our DORK DRAFT. Reed, who played Cleveland GM Mark Shapiro in "Moneyball" and has over 100 other credits in IMDB, helps judge our selections of Sports Movies That Make You Cry. It is a wild, hilarious discussion with a hugely charismatic and smart guest and was a fitting conclusion to our triumphant weekend in cottage country. Catch it on YouTube (please like and subscribe, too!) and follow us on IG @thisdayinsports8, too. Enjoy it!

Today's episode comes straight from the Globus Theatre in Bobcaygeon! This one's got funny, unforgettable stories about the 1984 NBA Draft, Brett Hull's controversial 'in the crease' goal, Ball Four, Jimmy Connors, the first baseball game ever played, and Philly and Pittsburgh's NFL teams being combined for one season. There's also great little diversions in there where we debate Lebron vs. MJ, mark some noteworthy sports 'firsts' for women and talk about a couple of Canadiens legends heading to Minnesota. On top of all that, we've got award-winning documentary filmmaker Andy Keen with us to debate the best songs that talk about sports in our DORK DRAFT. Andy directed the famous Tragically Hip doc Bobcaygeon , so he's perhaps the best-suited person possible to judge this discussion in this venue. It's available everywhere you might get your podcasts and on YouTube. Follow us on Instagram @thisdayinsports8.
