  • Episode 7 - Neville Southall
    2022/11/02

    Welcome back!

Todays episode is with Everton F.C. and Welsh goalkeeper, Neville Southall.

Neville has been regarded as one the best goalkeeper of his generation playing professional football for over 3 decades in which he made 751 appearances at Everton, as well as 92 appearances for Wales. During his time at Everton they won 2 Leagues titles, 2 FA Cups, and were European Cup champions. However, these days Neville is known for giving a voice to marginalised groups within society. He has been known to hand over his Twitter account to various groups and organisations that support them, to use his platform to educate, support and answer questions people may have on specific topics or matters.

In this episode we talk about his childhood growing up in Llandudno, the people that came into his life at the right place and the time that resulted in him signing with Everton. As well as the biggest things he has learnt over the years. We also discuss how he left professional sport to become a teacher and what he is most passionate today and why he believes he should use his platform to help others.

I hope you enjoy episode 7 of the Times and Places Podcast with Neville Southall.

  • Episode 3 - Rhian Mannings Founder of the Charity 2wish
    2022/09/22

    Welcome back!

This episode is with a truly inspirational woman called Rhian Mannings.

10 years ago, Rhian experienced every parent's worst nightmare, when her youngest child George suddenly died at the age of 1. While Rhian and her family started grieving the loss of their little boy, the unimaginable happened, and just 5 days later her husband Paul tragically committed suicide after being unable to cope with the death of their baby George. Leaving Rhian to grieve the loss of both her child, and husband, as well as raise her 2 other children. However, what is so unbelievable about Rhian’s story is she wanted to make a change so no other family would have to experience what she went through. This resulted in her starting the charity to 2wish, that offers support to those affected by sudden death in young people.

In our conversation, Rhian speaks so candidly about the events that happened 10 years ago, and how she continues to deal with her grief and mental health after losing Paul and George.

I will also be running the London Marathon this year for Rhian’s charity 2wish. Any donation would be greatly appreciated and will truly be going to such a great cause. Click the link to donate: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/caitlin-bryant1

So please go and listen to this incredible woman's story!

My chat with Rhian has been recorded over 2 episodes with part two coming out next week, as we also speak about hope and happiness, as well as the incredible work that Rhian has done with her charity 2wish, which is changing and saving lives across the country. We also discuss how Rhian found love again and talk about the people that are most important to her in life.

  • Episode 2 - Geraint Thomas
    2022/09/14

    Welcome back!

This week's guest is none other than cycling powerhouse Geraint Thomas. He is one of cycling's greatest competitors. With a list of achievements including 6 world cup and 3 world championship wins, double Olympic golds and not to mention he is a Tour de France winner.

In this episode, we touch on the places and moments that made him, including our shared memories of areas of South Wales that bring us both feelings of nostalgia. As well as his love of the sport and the fallbacks that come with it. Oh and it's probably worth mentioning, Mariah Carey gets a shout out so if that doesn’t make you want to listen I don’t know what will.

    I hope you enjoy!

The first episode of the series with Australian cricket star Marnus Labuschagne and Welsh rugby player James Botham!

It is the story of the friendship formed between Marnus and James years ago, when at the time they were both relatively unknown sportsmen from two different sides of the world, and two completely different sports who met through coincidences, in the unlikely setting of a pub in Cardiff, South Wales, this chance meeting resulted in two sporting worlds colliding and inspired me to start this podcast.
