    Raynette discovered she was the only female in her profession and shares her first-hand experience with the disparity in pay of women professors and the resulting changes, in part due to Congresswoman Maxine Waters, the advent of the birth control pill, and the changes brought about by the civil rights movement and the 60’s and the relation to the current environment. She talks about jobs today in scenic design with an emphasis on video games. Her work as a designer and scenic artist has taken her across the country to numerous theatres including the Arena Stage (Washington D.C.), Three Rivers Shakespeare Festival (Pittsburgh, PA), the Music Theatre of Wichita, the St. Nicolas Theater, and CBS Television in Chicago.

With a background in acting, she transitioned successfully into a different medium and works for Libsyn hosting company. She discusses her challenges in immigrating from El Salvador, especially dealing with loud noises that sounded like gunshots or helicopters overhead. Being ridiculed for her inability to speak English, she was afraid of letting her voice be heard. Elsie talks about raising her children through scary internet access. She was in an emotionally abusive relationship for 15 years and talks about the effects of gaslighting on self-esteem and feeling there is no “out.” She Podcasts!

    David’s biological father was a gangster; he was in the burn unit with severe burns in 3rd grade; and he grew up in the murder capital of the U.S in the 90’s. Overcoming challenges and obstacles, he has risen through many positions to become an executive director and leader in the affordable housing industry. He is a community leader and inspiration to all.


    ABOUT: David Northern is the Executive Director/CEO, Leader, Mentor, High School Coach and Founder of an Executive Coaching Company. He was also the recipient of the 2015 most influential African American of Lake County and a member of many boards. He is known for his innovative housing solutions. He creates many opportunities for subsidized housing residents including the scholars-for-dollars program and a major funding-raising event, the Gala.
