  • Welcome back to Truth Worth Living, where we seek to understand God’s word so we can live in God’s will. Today, we’re diving into the fourth beatitude found in Matthew 5:6: “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.” At first glance, it may seem that Jesus is calling for go-getters who will strive to achieve righteousness with all their might. But actually, Jesus is blessing the longing for righteousness, not the achievement of it. He’s not asking us to work ourselves to the bone trying to earn it because pursuing righteousness is not about checking off boxes or keeping the law perfectly. Rather, it’s about recognizing our need for Him. Just like the first three beatitudes, those who hunger and thirst for righteousness are blessed when they realize that only Jesus can satisfy that longing. The law shows us where we fall short—but Jesus meets us with grace and fills us.
