  • Ep. 35: Everyone in the queue has their own story
    2022/03/11

    Hey Everyone,

In today's episode we are joined by Fiona Setch. Having had a successful first career in Nursing, specialising in caring for people who were dying, Fiona is passionate about helping people reach their potential in life, and especially enjoyment in work.

With twenty eight years experience of designing & delivering inspiring and innovative learning strategies; Fiona provides high quality development opportunities tailored to the needs of the organisation, team and individual.

Fiona is renowned for her enthusiastic, inspiring and motivational delivery style as a coach, supervisor, trainer and public speaker.

    In this episode, we discuss;

    • Fiona takes us right back to when she left the UK to work in Italy at just 18, and how that experience helped shape her confidence
    • That everything you do, is going to contribute to who you become, and what you end up doing
    • If you’re going to take the time to study anything, make sure it’s something that you love!
    • How Fiona has created unique offerings in her business, one such example being that of Retirement Coaching
    • How being made redundant can significantly impact your confidence, and how reframing the language around that experience can help
    • Fiona’s experience of working with individuals with HIV and Aids, and how angry she had become about the judgment she was witnessing at the time
    • We hear all about Fiona’s 23 years of caring for her mother, who sadly died in her nursing home during the first wave of Covid
    • We take a short detour into understanding what coaching is, and isn’t, and why it’s important to know this if you’re thinking of investing in a coach
    • For the first time on the podcast we openly discuss the pandemic and how we collectively experienced the challenges it has brought
    • The struggle of transitioning her face to face business on to an online platform during the pandemic and the lack of confidence Fiona experienced using technology
    • Towards the end of the episode we find our way to discussing death, and how critical it is to have the confidence to discuss death with our loved ones

At times this episode hits some incredibly hard hitting, but real life issues that all three of us agree aren’t being discussed enough. There’s silence in places, as we process and contemplate how to take the conversation forward. Fiona shares very recent and real examples of losses she has experienced, and how she has managed to keep moving forward.

It was a genuine privilege to hold a space for this conversation. Fiona is lighthearted, funny, and has so many wonderful stories to listen to. There is so much to take from this episode, perhaps not specifically about confidence, maybe more about life.

  • Ep. 30: You've got to put your own mask on first
    2021/10/08

    Hey Everyone,

In today's episode, we are joined by Jo Rawbone. Jo officially “discovered” she was an introvert when she completed a Myers Briggs profile in 1989. She’d always known that she was different from many of her peers, friends, and family and now she knew why. But whilst this enhanced her self-awareness, it didn’t give her the tools to manage being an introvert in a world that is largely biased towards extroverts.

Jo’s personal experience throughout her more than 26 years as a trainer and consultant, working with thousands of international clients afforded her the opportunity to witness just how problematic this bias can. Thus, began a mission: to champion the cause of introverts and promote positive action to address the ‘extraversion bias’, a mission that took her to the TEDx stage in 2019.

In this episode, we talk about:

    • How Jo became mad enough to start her mission of helping introverts flourish
    • We explore what an introvert is, and the many myths and misconceptions about what it actually means to be an introvert
    • Jo shares that in her experience of supporting introverts it’s incredibly common to hear a statement we hear a lot on the show, “I’m just not a confident person”
    • The topic of fear shows up and Jo shares her equation for managing fear in order to take action
    • The story of how Jo came to name her inner critic and her inner advocate and how this has supported her own growth and development
    • What it means to be an introvert in a world that expects everyone to speak up and say what they are thinking
    • We hear Jo use some incredible language to describe the work she does including the idea of being a “Corporate Disruptor”
    • The decades of people being told they need to be someone else or something different, and how that may have led to countless individuals struggling to be themselves
    • The difference between, acting as if, vs. faking it until you make and how this relates to confidence
    • How Jo supports teams and individuals to understand where the boundaries and edges of their comfort zones are in order to develop and improve

What a fascinating episode, we hold no boundaries when it comes to where our conversations take us, and this episode is no different. There is so much to learn and take from this episode, whether you can relate to being an introvert or not, this episode has something for us all to learn and take away.

  • Ep. 28: Sometimes helping is not the best thing
    2021/09/03

    Hey Everyone,

Welcome to episode 28 of the Two Coach Confidence podcast. Our aim with this podcast is to bring fun and interesting guests from all areas and walks of life to share their knowledge, stories, and experiences of this mystical and subjective topic we refer to as confidence.

In today's episode, we have the absolute privilege of being joined by Rowena Birch. As an international judo player, Rowena competed in the Olympic Games in Atlanta and held the title of European Judo Champion. After retiring from competition, she went on to coach/manage the national judo squad (U18 years), helping to develop athletes including Sally Conway and Gemma Gibbons, who went on to win Olympic medals. She then spent 10 years coaching high-performance coaches and managers, helping them create environments that support development, motivation, and learning.

At the age of 50, Rowena decided it was time for something new and retrained as a financial adviser. Here she still uses her coaching skills to help individuals and businesses to develop financial plans and make decisions, which fit their unique needs. Rowena is also Vice president of British Judo, and a trustee for the charity Gaddum, who supported her family after the sudden death of her husband. A mother of two, Rowena now enjoys gardening, cooking, and the occasional visit back onto the judo mat.

In this episode, we talk about:

    • The misconception that confident people are confident all of the time
    • How Rowena felt to competing against a former Olympic Champion who just so happened to be one of her idols
    • The idea that if you want to become more confident, you have to be willing to get out of your comfort zone
    • Rowena kindly shares how suddenly losing her husband in a car accident significantly affected her confidence
    • Building confidence through stress and adaptation, and what that means practically
    • What it’s like to be surrounded by four world champions and how that impacted Rowena’s mindset and confidence
    • Being mindful about not taking over when you’re helping someone develop and grow their confidence
    • How to make the process of developing your confidence joyful and fun
    • Allowing yourself time when it comes to growing your confidence, it’s not an instant process
    • How big goals can be dangerous!
    • Realising that you’re not alone when it comes to feeling a certain way, especially when it comes to how you feel about your confidence
    • Having a system of building confidence through success

Rowena has a wonderfully warm energy and shares some incredibly personal experiences all with the intention of supporting you, our listeners. It’s fair to say this is one of our favourite episodes to date. The content and value provided are outstanding, listening to a former Olympic athlete share their stories, experiences and knowledge so generously was a genuine privilege.
