As Yuddhishthir was thinking about preparing for Raajsooy yagy, Vaasudev Krishn came to Indraprasth. Yuddhishthir welcomed Krishn and requested Krishn to be the key person for the Raajsooy yagy. Krishn asked Yuddhishthir to play the key role. After receiving instructions from Krishn, Yuddhishthir started planning and preparations for the grand yagy. Arrangements were made for housing and food for the large number of guests that were expected. Special ambassadors were sent to invite kings, brahmins, businessmen and also prominent shoodrs. Yuddhishthir sent his brother Nakul as a special emissary to Hastinapur to invite family and relatives. Soon, kings and others started arriving. Yudhishthir welcomed them all. On his journey towards the south, Sahdev encountered many kingdoms. He could win many by diplomacy, but was required to use force in some cases. Sahdev was fighting against King Neel’s army when he found that Neel was supported by Agnidev. Neel prayed to Agnidev and said that all offerings in Raajsooy yagy would be to Agnidev and hence, Agnidev should not act as a hindrance. Agnidev blessed Sahdev and agreed to help. On Agnidev’s instructions, Neel agreed to pay taxes to Sahdev. When Sahdev reached the bridge which was constructed by Ram and which led to Lanka, Sahdev decided to call his nephew Ghatotkatch, son of Bheem and Hidimbaa, to act as an ambassador to Vibheeshan, the King of Lanka. Maharshi directed that Arjun should go towards north, Bheem should go towards east while Sahdev should go towards the south and Nakul should go in the western direction. As per the directions of Maharshi, four brothers proceeded in the four directions. Arjun conquered the kingdoms of north, while Bheem was victorious in the east. Jaraasandh’s son, Sehdev, most humbly sought their permission to perform the last rites of his father. Once the last rites of Jaraasandh had been duly carried out, Krishn crowned Sehdev as the king of Magadh. They returned to Indraprasth with all the liberated kings. The three warriors, Krishn, Bheem and Arjun, reached the capital of Magadh dressed as Brahmins. After reaching there, they announced their presence, strength and intentions in a bold manner by damaging the top of a mountain which was held sacred by royal family and people of Magadh. They met Jaraasandh, but called him for a meeting after midnight. In the post-midnight meeting Krishn declared their animosity towards Jaraasandh due to his imprisonment of large number of kings. Krishn asked Jaraasandh to either release all the kings or prepare for death in a fight. Jaraasandh chose to fight. In a fight that lasted day and night for fourteen days, Bheem and Jaraasandh fought ferociously. When Jaraasandh started getting tired, Krishn motivated Bheem to finish off Jaraasandh. With guidance from Krishn, Bheem killed Jaraasandh by splitting him in two parts and throwing the two parts in two opposite directions. (Mahabharat/Sabhaaparv/ Jaraasandhvadh Parv/Chapter 21-24). King Brahdrath did not have any children. He met Muni Chandkaushik and expressed his sorrow at being childless. Muni gave a mango to the King who gave it to his two wives. The wives split the mango between them. In due course, both the queens gave birth to half-babies with each one having only one leg, one arm, one eye and so on. They decided to throw the half-babies. A raakshasee Jaraa picked up the two half-babies and joined them. The two parts merged together and a baby boy came to life who was named Jaraasandh. Krishn narrated the above story to Dharmraaj Yuddhishthir and sought permission to go with Bheem and Arjun to kill Jaraasandh. After getting the permission, the three departed to Magadh with the objective of killing Jaraasandh. Krishn summed up the political situation at that point time. Krishn told that Jaraasandh had declared himself to be the emperor and had put large number of kings in prison. Yuddhishthir could not become an emperor as long as Jaraasandh was alive. Krishn told about the number of wars that they had fought against Jaraasandh and had failed to defeat him. Hearing all this Yuddhishthir was inclined to give up his dream of becoming an emperor. Maharshi Naarad conveyed to Dharmraaj Yuddhishthir the message from Maharaaj Paandu asking him to do a Raajsooy Yagy. Yuddhishthir liked the idea but did not want to rush through such a major task. He first concentrated on building his reputation through implementing the preachings of Naarad regarding a king’s dharm. Subsequently, he discussed the proposal with his brothers, his ministers and his well-wishers. All of them supported the idea. But, Yuddhishthir was not satisfied. He thought that Vaasudev Krishn would be the best person to advise in this regard. So, he sent a special emissary to Dwarka requesting Krishn to come to Indraprasth for discussions.
