    WELCOME BACK!!
This is it, Fellow Babies. Welcome to the FINAL network first-run airing of WKRP. This episode, "The Impossible Dream" had been shelved by the network in the spring of 1982. Now, with a breakout hit on their hands, the network decided to play this never-before-seen episode well into the fall season...the season AFTER WKRP had been cancelled.

It's Les's birthday. The passing of another year has spurred the News Beacon of the Ohio Valley to strive for more in his career. That, and his mother is in town. Les suddenly starts pulling awards off the wall and announces he's headed to New York to take Dan Rather's news-chair.

Jennifer reacts to the birthday and mother-visit news with the same answer: Party Time! She plans a surprise birthday party for Les. For some reason, the guest of honor shows up way early. He's there before any of the other guests! He arrives without his mother and tells Jennifer he hates it for anyone to know about his birthday.

Ms. Marlowe could not be having a worse day. Triple vodkas all around!!

At the party, Les debuts his on-camera demo tape. It's beyond bad. Les realizes he's made a fool of himself and runs out.

Will Les go to New York? Will we meet Les's mother? Will we shudder just a little bit at the overwhelming cringiness of the final three minutes? Spoilers!! The answers would be: no, yes and yes.

Let's join Lester in tilting at some windmills during this FINAL WKRP episode!! Moo-goo, anyone??

    Send a note to Allen & Donna…

    WELCOME BACK!!
This roll of film had fifty pictures of a black guy in a tux holding a bottle of shampoo...and ONE picture of a dorky white guy at a bar-b-que grill. Guess which one the printer chose? Would your answer change if you knew the photographer was Herb Tarlek?

In a career marked by colossal screw-ups, this is one colossal screw-up. Herb's new client "Soul Suds" went the full multi-media promo route. They're utilizing point of purchase display stand-ups featuring WKRP's own Venus Flytrap. Venus is right there at the store shelf promoting the same shampoo he's pitching on the radio. He's in a tux, his hair is looking awesome and he's holding the product. It's coordinated marketing synergy on an unprecedented level! And HERB is running the show!! What could go wrong?

Oh, just the pesky printer mentioned above. Herb told them they should figure anything he said was wrong. They listened to him on this one...the fools. Now Herb is cooking up burgers in convenience and grocery stores all over town while claiming to be a laid-back Venus Flytrap. We can't even see what his hair looks like because he's wearing a HAT!!

This might be all she wrote for Herb. Unless a gorgeous blonde temptress can be found to inspire the client to forgive poor Mr. Tarlek. If only we knew a gorgeous blonde temptress...Jennifer, surprisingly, steps up.

It's a tale of blind...or possibly blonde...ambition, dueling receptionists, deceptive salesmen and the most perceptive CEO Jennifer has ever met. This time beauty is in the ear of the beholder, and a good thing for Herb.

Strap in, fellow babies. It's time to push 'play' and lather up. We're gonna take a ride on the "Soul Suds" train with "To Err is Human" our next to last episode of THE SERIES.

    2024/06/25

    Send a note to Allen & Donna…

    WELCOME BACK!!
Finally! All the hard work for the KRP-Crew seems to be paying off! Andy got the new Book in this morning and there's some GOOD news!! The Mighty 'KRP has risen to a quite respectable SIXTH in the Cincinatti Market!!

Andy calls the gang together for the big reveal. Herb thinks this is it for his time on the streets...the phone will be ringing off the hook, right??

In the lobby, a gentleman with a deep and resonating voice has introduced himself to Jennifer as the NEW News Director. Ummm...huh?

Mrs. Carlson has reached out to Fargo, N.D. in search of...what? A replacement for Les? No, when Andy confronts her, she says Les still has a job. Turns out, Mr. Travis might be the one looking for work. Mama intends to turn the whole rockin' shootin' match into a respectable "All News" station.

Will Mama get her way? Will Andy be heading out "town to town...up and down the dial"? Surely not! Then again, WKRP the TV show hasn't been doing nearly as well as WKRP the radio station when it comes to ratings. This might be the last show of the series, let alone the last show of the season.

And, really, it's not even the last show of the season. Big programming news, fellow babies! Next week we veer WAY off the known path as we check out a first-run WKRP episode that didn't air until AUGUST!!

It's coming to an end...but there are still some surprises left in store for you, Fellow Babies! Grab a swig from Johnny's Jug and hit "Play"...Hirsch will get the door.

  • S4E19 - "The Creation of Venus"
    2024/06/18

    Send a note to Allen & Donna…

    WELCOME BACK!!
We're 87 episodes into the series and Mr. Blake Hunter has decided we really need to clarify a few things that came before...like stuff that happened during the PILOT!

It's time to corral all those things we've heard about Venus over the last four years and explain how it could all happen to one man. We know him as military deserter...accomplished teacher...hottest nighttime deejay in NOLA...how was he able to pull it all off and he's not 63 years old??

We discover a few things in Venus' past have been...fudged. Okay, so maybe Mr. Travis outright lied about a couple of things, but all in the name of good radio, right??

Mama Carlson doesn't think so. She's dropped by the station one evening to meet with Arthur. He's late. She is walking through the station as Andy and Venus are involved in some serious horseplay.

Mama winds up getting tackled in the midst of all the goofing around. In exchange for her forgiveness, she forces Andy and Venus to tell us the TRUE story of Mr. Venus Flytrap and his "biggest" audience in The Big Easy.

Sit back, Fellow Babies...the episode was only 25 minutes, but they jammed so MUCH into it!! We've got a Max question, a comment from Tim Reid and a TON of new info about this old episode. We go for nearly an hour and a half...but don't worry, it'll flytrap right by!! Push 'play' and jump in the Time Machine!! It's about to get all boogity up in here.

  • S4E18 - "Dear Liar"
    2024/06/11

    Send a note to Allen & Donna…

    WELCOME BACK!!
Les is a consummate newsman...when the news is farm related. As Johnny says, Les's stories have that unmistakable 'barnyard aroma.'

Andy has an assignment for the News Beacon of the Ohio Valley. Mrs. Carlson is a big supporter of a local children's hospital. The Hospital is in dire need of community support. Andy hands Les the info and tells him to go down there and do a story on it. Now.

Les, in an inspired bit of delegation, hands the story to Bailey. Truth be told (which doesn't happen a lot in this episode) Les would much rather be working on saving the endangered Rutabaga (yeah, you'll have to talk to Lester about that one).

Bailey goes to the Hospital. After being battered around a bit by the administrator, she's finally given a tour. Upon her return to the station, Bailey writes a beautiful, heart-string tugging story about her experience. Too bad it's all a lie.

Les doesn't know it's a lie, so he's more than happy to read Bailey's story on the air...after a threat from Andy.

Suddenly people are afraid of losing their jobs, the station is in fear of losing its license...this is AWFUL!!

Three minutes later, everything's fine. To find out exactly HOW everything could turn out so well...you're going to have to watch! Or, better yet, why don't you LISTEN!? We've got all the answers this week...even if very few of them are true.

Oh, and as a bonus, we've got a five minute-plus report on the Whoopee Cushion! And we're not the least bit sorry about it!! (You can thank us later).

Push 'play' fellow babies...somebody will be with you shortly to tell you fibs and fallacies...but you're gonna love it!!

    WELCOME BACK!!
There's a Fire in the Flimm Building!! Alliteration loving Les is happy to hear it's on the FIFTH floor! The gang was just leaving for the day as the conflagration broke out.

Herb and Jennifer made it on the elevator. They walked right past Johnny who was coming in for work...ummm...yeah, you'll need to ask Johnny about this one.

Herb and Jennie-poo wind up trapped between the 8th and 9th floors...the rest of the gang is stuck on 14.

Johnny decides, since he's got 12 hours to kill, he might as well plunge into the jaws of death...or something like that. He rides a firehose down into the elevator shaft in order to save Jennifer, Herb and the stranded car.

If this is sounding less like an episode of WKRP and more like an Irwin Allen disaster film...you'd be right! It's one of the most ambitious episodes of the series, and the last for Director Will Mackenzie. Get your popcorn, fellow babies, and push "play"...we're about to avert downtown Cincinnati from a major disaster!!

    2024/05/28

    Send a note to Allen & Donna…

    WELCOME BACK!!
Venus snuck a girl past the night guard. Okay, so this is not unusual for Venus. What's different this time? The girl is using Venus as cover so she can engineer a robbery at a Wholesale Jeweler elsewhere in the Flimm Building.

Sounds like "Law and Order: WKRP", right? It kind of is! The fuzz shows up in the bullpen and Venus is hauled downtown in cuffs. Johnny, in disguise, visits the jailbird. His fake beard had to sign the visitor's log separately.

We spend a lot of time in a courtroom and Venus might GO TO PRISON!! The whole gang is enlisted to act as character witnesses. Max Wright returns as fearless Carlson Enterprises attorney Frank Bartman.

It looks bad for Venus. He might be in real trouble. In the end, a whole lot of prayer and a little bit of luck saves the day. Venus is returned to the station and you can hear about the whole thing by pushing "Play."

    WELCOME BACK!!
Big things happening all over the place this week, Fellow Babies! Herb got a new client. Believe it or not, a sponsor for Les's newscasts. It's a computer dating service called "I'll Take Romance." They're just across the river into Kentucky.

Fill out their questionnaire and be matched to the guy or gal of your dreams...scientifically.

This ALSO happens to be the same week as the Cincinnati Broadcaster's Dinner and Dance. It's a pretty swank affair...$35 a person and there'll be a trio for dancing. It just so happens Les needs a date AND Herb signed him up with the dating service AND Les got matched to a young lady who likes hogs and hog breeding AND she's available Friday night! Everything's coming up Nessman!!

Les's 'Perfect Match' arrives!! Her name is Lorraine and she's been sent by "I'll Take Romance." The lovely Lorraine is being played by the even lovelier Livia Genise. We talk to Livia!! She shares her memories of WKRP and her time in Hollywood in the 1980s.

Ooops! The looker is a hooker! "I'll Take Romance" is a front for prostitution. Les has no idea. He didn't sign up for, or pay for, his date. He thinks it's a great match and he's falling hard!

Of course, Jennifer gets it all worked out!
