Is your purpose future-proof?
“What worked yesterday might not work tomorrow.”
Have you heard this leadership maxim before? If we want to continue making an impact as leaders, we need to future-proof our purpose. What exactly does that mean? Simply put, it’s about adapting to change while staying true to your core mission. The leader you are today won’t be the leader you need to be tomorrow, next month, or even next year. Growth is constant, and leadership is no different.
A great example of this is Amy Purdy, a Paralympic medalist and motivational speaker who lost both of her legs at the age of 19. Her story is incredibly powerful because she teaches us that true growth isn’t about overcoming the boundaries others place on us—it’s about overcoming the ones we place on ourselves. Amy’s purpose has evolved over time, but the core of her mission—to inspire others—has never changed. The lesson here for all of us is clear: the leadership we provide today may look different from the leadership we provide tomorrow, but the essence of our purpose should remain grounded.
So this week, ask yourself: what’s holding you back from evolving into the leader you’re meant to be?
