On average, Australians live to see their 83rd birthday. But for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, life expectancy is about eight years less. Closing the Gap is a national agreement designed to change that. By improving the health and wellbeing of First Nations, they can enjoy the same quality of life and opportunities as non-Indigenous Australians. - تُعد أستراليا من الدول ذات أعلى معدلات متوسط العمر المتوقع عالميًا، حيث يبلغ نحو 83 عامًا. لكن هذا المعدل ينخفض بنحو ثماني سنوات عندما يتعلق الأمر بالسكان الأصليين وسكان جزر مضيق توريس. ومن هنا جاءت اتفاقية سد الفجوة، كجهد وطني يهدف إلى تحسين صحة ورفاهية هذه المجتمعات، لضمان حصولهم على نفس فرص الحياة وجودتها التي يتمتع بها باقي الأستراليين.
